How much is everyone paying for insurance in GTA?

Or more specifically in Downtown Toronto.

I know there's several factors involved, and unlike in BC i have the option to shop around. I don't really see myself needing to drive as I live right in the middle of Downtown and 4 min walk to work but I guess it's nice to have when needed.

Clean driving record for 10+ years other than 2 speeding tickets
2009 E93 328I
Need only the most basic usage and coverage

Approx what am I looking at? I was paying about $2500/yr in BC

Thanks

Yes and no on the broker. All the brokers I've went to have been more expensive than just going strait to the insurance company. I deal with TD with my auto, snowmobile, and rental insurance and they've been pretty good. They're prices are fairly reasonable too. I have 3 vehicles with them, my 2011 335xi is around $2k a year full coverage with reasonable deductibles. My 2008 F150 and 2003 Chrysler 300M are around $1200 a year each with basic coverage.

Wow didnt know GTA car insurance would be that expensive... Paying close to 1000$ with full coverage in QC with 2011 BMW 335xi and was paying 1200$ for Civic Si 2012.

Good luck man! I know someone in Richmond hill area paying close to 5k for his Honda civic Si 2011.

Very, very subjective and as you said so many factors, but the 2 tickets will definitely cause you an easy increase of 20% or so.

A direct writer or an association / group coverage may be best for you as you'll be able to get heftier discounts. If you don't really need a car then don't worry about it right now. But then again, if you're okay with an extra $400/yr or so then who cares right? That's only $35/month or so not a big deal when you think about it.

it really depends when he had the tickets. As far as I know ( unless it changed) insurance company only count tickets that have been given in the last 3 years while accidents are 6 years. OP did not specified when he got the tickets

Like someone else said , I m with bel air insurance , no broker. I tried to get a few quotes from brokers but they were all more expensive than just going straight , plus bel air customer service is pretty good

I was paying 230 a month full coverage for e90 328 in mississauga , then I moved to milton and my insurance went down to 170 a month. However I have 3 cars so I do get a bit of a discount

I ve been driving for 13 years and have a clean record.

My sister lives in beaches toronto and her car insurance went down compared to mississauga

There are too many factors to tell op what his insurance cost would be but I would guess somewhere between 2500-3000 assuming he had 2 tickets in the last 3 years.

Its also very important to shop around , TD insurance wanted 350 for the bmw while bel air gave me 230 and state farm wanted 400 so there is a big gap between prices

I'm 23, primary driver on a '12 VW GLI and secondary on a '09 E93 328i. I have 2 tickets on my record and pay $410/month for insurance.

When I was shopping for insurance last year, my quotes ranged from $400-550/month. Insurance in Ontario is insane.

He said 10 + years of experience with clean record except for 2 tickets. Nowhere he said when he got the tickets. Believe it or not some people think their tickets stay in their record forever which is not true as they insurance only consider tickets 3 years or older

Insane it is.......the price of freedom is not cheap....I still remember my first brand new car I bought years ago as young man....420 a month for a 2001 Hyundai Accent gsi was just crazy looking back
I would have got a big v-8 truck in retrospect.

Hey guys thanks for the reply....sorry didn`t know the tickets I got 'expire' after 3 years. When I got them in BC it didn't affect my insurance at all (I think they let you have 2 a year before it starts affecting the premiums based on points?) Anyways I got them in BC maybe 5 and 6 years ago.

How would not driving and being insured for the past 1 and a half years affect the premiums? will that affect premiums adversely or be a non factor?

Thanks

so in reality you have a clean record. Tickets only count if they are less than 3 years and accidents less than 6 years. Insurance will not raised premiums if you have tickets older than 3 years.

I dont think not being insure for the past year would affect you much. Main thing is you have a clean record, you are over 25 and you have 10 plus years experience . The only thing is your current address , I m not sure about that one.

Put it this way I used to live 4 blocks from my dad , 5 minute drive. Same insurance company wanted to charge me 300 for my address and 260 for my dads address, so 40$ difference between 4 blocks , crazy

You guys have had better luck then me I guessing. I got quotes from TD, RBC, and PC insurance and they wanted close to 5 grand on an 03 TSX a few years ago. And this is with a clean driving record for 18yrs. Family friend referred me to Guthrie Insurance Brokers and I got full coverage for 2100. It went up to 2300 went I got the beamer.

I just bought a 2011 328 Sedan before Christmas, so had to register for insurance quite recently. I and am paying just under $1500/year (I live in Etobicoke). I have a relatively clean driving record (1 speeding ticket in the last three years).

Just to clarify because certain ppl on here think they know the system / insurance industry....

Any ticket that you've been convicted of will only be on your record "drivers abstract" for 3 years from the conviction date. After this, it's cleared completely.

Any accident that is partially or completely your fault will be on your "insurance record" (we call it an Auto Plus Gold report) for anywhere from 6 to 10 years. This all depends on the insurance company and some may not even rate you for it.

Accidents that are not your fault will remain in your record for the same period of time, but can't be rated against you.

There are truly way too many factors involved in determining pricing, but usually if you're over the age of 25, have a decent record (accidents/tickets) and some insurance experience you won't get raped.

The vehicle you purchase (expensive/safe) and the location you live in also have a lot to do with pricing.

If you're ever curious enough you can try kanetix.com for an approximate quote, but a broker/agent is 100% more accurate if you want to do the leg work in looking for a good price.

+1 - it is a little bit crazy to try and take a survey on a forum post of what others are paying to get some idea of what your own policy will cost. There are just so many variables including coverages/deductibles, age/sex of the primary driver (and any other drivers in the household), and where the car is garaged.

The one thing not mentioned also is that discounts can make a *huge* difference in the cost of your policies, so if possible make sure you are consolidating all of your insurance where it makes sense (I believe even a single modest renter's policy can trigger the multiline discount for your auto policy).

To give you one example, I am looking at my policy renewal offer for my BMW on my desk right now and there is a 20% "multicar" discount, a 16% "multiline" discount and another 10% "good driving" discount (I think this used to be called accident-free or 5-star or something similar).

When I was in scarborough I was paying $2000/yr on a G35 coupe with a clean record. Moved to Markham and I pay $1000/yr on my M3 LOL...actually less since I take it off insurance for the winter months, so it's more like $600ish for the year.

Shop around is all I can say. I was with TDMM and when I had my 335d they wanted $2500/yr. I switched to desjardins and payed $1600/yr.

Use www.insurancehotline.com for a quote. It checks over 30 different companies in one shot. A single broker usually deals with 5 or so companies so this will save a bunch of time shopping around for insurance. And quotes are usually are very highly dependent on your exprience, driving history, accidents, tickets, age etc.
