Can I use USB port in car charger to download new software?
My car charger for my phone has a USB port in it and I was wondering if I could use that port to plug a Flash drive into it to download the new Bluetooth software upgrade?
Will this work?

There is a website from BMW where you can download new software onto a Flash Drive, plug the flash drive into the USB port in your car and update the bluetooth software in your car.
My car does not have a USB port in it, but I noticed that my portable phone charger that I plug into the cigarette lighter does have a USB port on it. So my question is, if I downloaded the software onto a Flash Drive then plugged the Flash Drive into this USB port on the phone charger would that enable me to update my Bluetooth software in the car?

No. The "USB" part of your charger isn't really USB, it's just the power portion of it. The cigarette lighter is just wired to some power source.

AFAIK the only way to update the "software" inside the car would be through the OBD2 to USB cable with respective software (INPA etc...).
I believe you may be getting the OBD2 to USB converter cable mixed up. Where the USB plugs into the Computer which has software installed for "coding" and the OBD2 portion plugs into the car. * Edit * Also, if your still under warranty, you may check and see if the dealer will apply the update for free. |

Wow, this is awesome. The OP invented a way to turn a 12V power port into a USB port. Holy crap, you better get a patent on that quick!!
