Prius ...

As the 335d is prob going this weekend ... im thinking the only way to forget the car is to go the other way totally and do the economy thing instead - that way with no performance i wont be comparing!

Has anyone ever driven one? Im hoping to pop down to my local dealership tomorrow and have a sit - but thought id see what folks thought.

This decision is purely financial - the money i save will get me in an M3 in 2 yrs, or a range sport next yr.

I currently do 700 miles a week and under our car scheme i get more money for petrol then diesel ... so a hyper economic petrol makes me about £200 a month better off - not including the lieage allowance relief!

Worst idea I've ever heard.

The Mini One D has the same CO2 emissions and better fuel consumption than the Prius.

The Prius has a larger embodied carbon footprint than a conventional car and a shorter lifespan. The batteries in the prius are also more environmentally damaging than materials in traditional cars.

Overall, from an environmental perspective the Prius is the worst type of gimmickry and I'd rather be stuck in a lift with Bill Oddy than have the misfortune of owning one.

In terms of pure economy, the mini one or a 318d will be much cheaper.

Or better yet - buy second hand

335d to a hybrid, got to be a piss take?

Sooner you save the cash, sooner you're back to the bmw fold, so endure a £3k mondeo diesel if you can

The issue for me is that the prius actually makes me money for work! We get a lot more money for petrol then diesel - and the prius is pretty good economy wise - and petrol!

Trust me .. i aint looking forward to it .. but financially it works out at about 7k a yr in my pocket as im cancelling a loan with the money i get from the BM as im buying a 2nd hand prius.

Gonna go see if i can drive one tomorrow ... could be deleting this thread after that test drive!

I can see where you're coming from ie. long term gain.

You must be a patient man though.
