Going for first coding session, clarify if its worth it please

having a local coder do my Stereo to HIFI coding tomorrow.

He is charging 100$ success or $50 no success.

I have been reading everything i can find online regarding this process to try and help my cause. Have read too many posts about it not being possible on some 2011 PRO HU.

Can someone clarify if I am going to lose $50 here or if it will be a success.

2011 bmw 323i canada
(build date: 2010-11-09)
Pro head unit, base stereo

ISTA/P version 45.2.0.0

From what i read the process should be as simple as
-Just code the OEM HU to output HiFi using NCS Expert. (option 676)
-+676 was added to the VO.

An older post i read said the ISTA must be updated to a more recent version, they were referencing something in the 2.41-2.46 range version of ista.

My ISTA is 45...so no idea how that correlates to that thread.

bottom line, will this work on my car? Or should I tell the guy not to worry for now.

thank you

That's just crazy. He is charging you 50 if he doesn't succeed in coding it. That's just plain old rip off. I would only pay for any type of service only if the service is completed. Attempting to do something and not getting it done, there should never be any type of fee. I would look elsewhere

its not quite like that, its more of a being fair and paying for ones time...hes never coded the HU from stereo to HIFI, but does just about everything else. he is also an ex bmw tech.
So i would hope that this can be done

unfortunately i am in canada and we have like 0 coders...unless i buy a cable and get someone to do remote. Which in the end would be more expensive.

do you have an opinion on whether this will be achievable on my system?

seriously contemplating doing it my self now though lol

There are actually some people in Canada East that can code.

If you were west coast $60 for anything under the sun, get what you asked for, pay what you wanted and backed up from the shop. If the shop messes up, redo for free. If they've never tried a particular code, a real salesperson wouldn't use your car to be the dummy, they'd use their own. Find someone more reputable, not someone who wants to do trial and error.

i hear that, but like i said. im in canada...we have less coders. all 3 of the local forum's top coders ive contacted are not around, or dont code HU.
so really what other options do i have?

get a cable and do it myself, or get a cable and try to find someone remote in the USA.

lol, back to square one...

im not sure why desi said flat out NO...maybe busy.

but gez, i can code the bloody HU im sure. id rather just have it done asap, instead of waiting fora cable, setup on win7 and so on.
its incredibly simple, to add the value to the VO and write it to the two units.

cant find any local spots to buy it of course.

SO it still seems the LCI e90s are like vodoo for coding

some say it works, some say it doesnt.

here is some stuff i have found, any help would be appreciated
daten files updated, d-can tools works
can read and write basic stuff cas frm, not 2urad

I got my k+d running smoothly, and can do everything except write to 2urad. All of the posts ive been reading say you just need to code CAS and FRM. why the 2urad?

A few people on here have had success with the newer e91, so i dont get why the e90 is a definite no go.

also some are mentioning "delete the cars date and put #0311 in the vo list " would that help the hifi coding?

I would have helped you out, but it isn't as simple as coding the Vo and voila. People have said that they haven't been able to have success going this route.

It also heavily relies on one even having the retrofit done properly. Something I don't have control on hence why I said I cannot do it for you.

No worries Desi, appreciate the response.

No retrofit was done, its the technic harness and xd600/6 install.

Can you chime in on what I should attempt? I have already abandoned the coding with someone else, ill do what I can myself for now.

another response on *********:
___________________________________
add $676 to CAS and FRM, change production date to #0311, then SG_codieren on 2URAD (will fail), then SG_RESET on 2URAD and you should be ok. Of course, if you have already added bluetooth and USB to VO

if i already have BT and USB, would i need to re-add them?
im guessing that by changing the date to 0311 it reverts back to non-usb setting or something? allowing for the hifi and then have to bring it back up to usb/bt level?

thank you

tried:

fa_write $676 to cas frm nfrm
Fa_write #0311 to cas and frm and nfrm
sg_code.. to 2urad (fail)
sg_reset to 2urad

no hifi yet.

No date change either...it didnt really change. Still says #0911 (if thats the date, im not sure. my prod date is Nov 2010)

You won't be able to code your radio with just a KDCAN, you'll need an ICOM.

Although I've done this several times.

Performing sg_reset won't write the data to your hu.

All I use is the "werkinstellung" profile (pm if you need) and do a sg_coderung.

Just update FA with $676 and do a sg_coderung with the "werkinstellung" profile. There you go. It DOES work with a KDcan cable. Matter infact I did it yesterday!

I have heard that the success of this with a kdcan depends on the model
year of both the car and the idrive or pro radio . 06 no problem anything after 09 icom needed but I wonder why? Bimmertech seems to be able to do this
with the cable they send and people have reported they just plug it into the normal OBD 2 port.

It will work on older models, but I was speaking directly to him since he has a 2010 production car. A KDCAN cable will not code his HU.

I would be nice to have it nailed down to which model years
and model years of electronics it will work on.
And to actually know the reason why.
Doesn't look like it can be anything but protocol at first
glance as the pinouts are the same for OBD 2.

Joe,

Thanks for the reply; depressingly, it's beginning to sound more and more as though you are correct.

Let me ask another question then. It seems that trying to do this with NCS Expert is out. How about using ISTA/P with a K-DCAN cable. Doesn't that come with an ICOM emulator? Would that work to program MOST devices? Is it worth trying to get ahold of a copy of ISTA/P to try?

Thanks again for your help,

ianc

Bimmertech was doing this service for about 150 but they did charge
a security deposit for there cable of 300 . I think they send you and ICOM.
There are some coding outfits based in San Francisco area don't know if they
do the stereo thing or not.
