h&r sports springs installed, but....

Hi, just had time to installed the h&r sports on my e92 328xi, and now my headlights are aiming low. I tried adjusting it from the knobs under the hood, they work but when i try to adjust the passenger side higher, it seems like theres a limit and will pop back down to default if i go pass it. then i tried to adjust it just right before the limit, the cutoff is still too low, nearly half of a bumper from the cars in front of me. is this normal? but the driver can go way higher than passenger.

It happens on some E9x's that I've read about on the board. A friend of mine had it happened on his E92 after he installed H&R springs. He was driving with the high beam on, just so he would actually see the street at night normally, until he got an alignment. That fixed the issue. The headlights work as it did before the spring install.

Usually, an alignment is necessary for even tire wear following a drop. However, I don't know how an alignment will help to adjust your headlights. Maybe WJ4 knows more about that?

Yes, you are right about that. But this car has a lot of sensors under it. I forgot to tell the OP that the first step would be to recheck and make sure you connected every sensor back up that you disconnect during the install.

I don't know all the small details about this issue because I've never had it happened to me after I lowered my car. My best guess would be that the sensors are somehow effected after the lowering job, and that in turns effect the headlight pattern.

That's a quick search I did...just to show that you are not alone on this issue so you don't lose any sleep over it.

im pretty sure all the sensors/wires are connected, my lights do auto level when i start up the car, just cant seem to adjust the passenger side any higher than 1inch. and if alignment dont work then probably bring it to the dealer. and seriously, if i do have to bring my car in to the dealer, will they blame me for installing aftermarket parts not fix it for me? or should i just switch back to stock springs

The auto leveling mechanism might be facing the wrong way. Check step 13 of this post http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15397 and look at how the autoleveling mechanism is facing. make sure yours is that way. Abnormal projector operation is a common issue after suspension installs because of this little detail.

when lowering a car..it does affect how the headlights adjust since its just a potentiometer with a rod attached around the tie rod...lower car=diff pattern of adjustment

+1 for the headlight autoleveling sensor.

Even if it is attached correctly, since the H&Rs change the pitch of the car (front is relatively lower than the front compared to stock), you might need to adjust the sensor to account for that. I haven't done a spring install on the bimmer yet, but this is how it was for my previous car.

This makes me a little nervous about using the springs. Getting ready to finally pull the trigger on these things.
