Polishing and waxing small areas

I'm curious on some professionals opinions of the best way to polish those small areas that need attention on our car's finish. Areas such as: Door handles, a-pillars, between lettering, etc.

What products do you use including polish/wax and applicators? Also, what is your technique. Do you try to go in circles, back and forth, wipe on wipe off?

Just wondering how to get good results in those areas that are too much of a PITA, or are physically impossible to get a buffer into.

Thanks in advance.
