I don't know the exact costs but in order to do that you'd have to buy a new steering wheel that already have the paddles mounted on them and wire the paddles so it would coordinate with the shifter.
I was in the same situation in the past where I wanted to have one with the paddles, but ultimately i couldn't find one in my area. I still drive the car in manual mode at all times and it's perfectly fine imo.

BMS retrofit paddles?

http://www.burgertuning.com/paddleshift.html

There's some caveats though read it a bit see if it meets your needs. Mostly you need to separately order some parts i think is what it is.

You'd probably have to buy a new steering wheel and the price could range from a couple hundred to well over a thousand depending on what you want. Standard sport steering wheel, M sport steering wheel, Performance v1/v2 steering wheel, m3 steering wheel, or custom steering wheel. Im assuming you don't have the sport steering wheel and that you'd have to purchase the airbag that is compatible with all those steering wheels listed above.

Standard Sport Wheel - 100 - 200 used
M Sport Wheel - 300 - 400 used 450 NEW(with paddles)
M3 Wheel - 300 - 400 used 465 NEW(with paddles)
Perf. V1 / V2 - Seen 600 for a used v1 before but NEW > 1000
Pre-LCI Paddles - < 50 used
LCI Paddles - 150 - 200 used
M3 paddles - 200 - 300 used 495 NEW
Airbag - 300 - 400 used 695 NEW

The new prices are from Tischer(getbmwparts.com). Some people selling M3/m-sport/standard wheels may or may not include things like paddles, trim, mf buttons.
