E90 se 320d exhaust mod

hi all newbie here will up load photos tomorrow...

just to start things looking at replacing the horrible diesel exhaust with a s/s twin port any recomendations or photos would be great

thanks in advance...

ps seen this on fleabay would this be a direct fit for an exhaust fitter of a big/expensive job

Any exhaust place can fit this for you mate. Will need a custom piece of pipe from the stock backbox.

Expect to pay no more than £80-90 fitted for something like this. Might as well get the tips from the exhaust place too.

I went to a powerflow dealer and ended up with this:

Ok I want to make it crystal clear, I'm not looking for an argument or anything of that sort.

Why would you or people want to put a custom exhaust on a 320d? I don't quite grasp it.

I'm guessing it's because they don't like the standard exhaust.
The standard droopy pipe that comes with the saloon is not exactly flattering.

I would give BCS a call they do a good back box which is direct swap for the OEM oneand comes with twin rear ovals.

Changing a exhaust on even 320D does make a difference, apart from the fact the droopy one is pants and even the oval one on LCI cars is cheap and nasty and tarnishes quickly. The oval metal is very poor and looks tired quickly

Putting a less restrictive back box simply makes the car more drivable IMO. I found when on load mine sounds less strained and is just easier to drive and spool up.

Sorry, I meant buy the tips you want (as per your link) from the place you intend to fit. You're likely to get a lower overall prive for supply and fit compared with just fitting something you've brought along.

Also, if anything goes wrong or the part is wrong etc etc - it's on the exhaust place to sort out rather than you this way

Magic77 does suggest a good alternative to just replacing the tips.. (full replacement backbox) but AFAIK you're looking at a good £350 or so fitted for a full replacement backbox rather than the £80 I mentioned to get mine done as per the above pics

The mv one above looks nice, I'm keeping my eye out for a 330 backbox on eBay, hopefully it will be easy ish to attach and still look factory

well i am confused now spoke to a powerflow dealer in bolton near me and he said due to the existing pipe being mild steel and a set of s/s tips the two different metals will not weld therefore my only option was a complete backbox £185 fitted inc VAT and my choice of pipes which doesnt sound too bad but is he right regarding the two types of steel?

it depends what you want I did removal of the mid box with just straight pipe and then a BCS backbox which is the same as Statlers. It worked about about £250 in total. You could just get the back box and cut the current exhaust yourself as it comes with a joining sleeve and you just need some pipe sealent to seal it

Just to clear something up gents.

The MV Sport backbox is produced by BCS and sold on for signafficantly more than what BCS ask for the original which was £200 to me, fitted for free at their workshop. Can't say fairer than that can you?

NO welding!

DIY as in cut the old pipe with a hacksaw (or a 4" grinder...) and pop the new one on.
You just need to get the car up off the ground a bit more, I used a couple of old railway sleepers and reversed onto them.

If you can get it cheaper as per the guys above, fire ahead.

As long as its fitted correctly does not stick out past the bumper and is secured correctly no reason why it would not pass MOT

Hello mate, i know this is a bit of an old thread, but i'd like to know how you got powerflow to do this for £80-£90?

I've just been to my local powerflow and they quoted £127 for exactly the same thing!
