SOS error and iDrive not working
Ok, so far this has happened twice. Searched, didn't find the exact problem.
Anybody know what this is? The iDrive is not responsive at all |

Yeah, I know this is an old thread
I know this thread's been idle for a while, but just wanted to post this in case anyone else has run across this problem.
I got this error while I was driving the other day, and just happened to be setting up an appt with my local BMW service. I took it in today, and they had to do a software update (no details on which software yet). It must be a big update, it is apparently going to run all night, and I'll get the car back tomorrow. I'm not sure if this is an iDrive update. I had them check the version on it a couple weeks back (I've only had the car for a month), and they said iDrive was up to date. I'll post back tomorrow when I find out what the problem was. |

I have the most up-to-date software on my car and still have this problem.
I just reset my iDrive by pressing and holding both eject and the volume button until the iDrive resets. |

Ha, I guess someone else was having the same question about this problem. Well, I was doing some more digging after posting, and found these service bulletins on a 6-series web site. I am attaching them as PDFs.
If you're having this problem, you might want to print out the bulletins and take them in to the dealer. You shouldn't have to live with resetting the stupid thing all the time. But that's just my opinion. |

The answer they gave originally was my phone was "unsupported" which is causing the error. I get it every few months and just reset the iDrive. I got a new phone but I dont remember for sure if it's happened since...hmmm...

This only happened to me when I hardwire my V1, tapping some 12v wire.
I since changed the setup to a fuse tapping. I do not get this anymore. my car is a 2006 330xi. |

I had this same issue a few months back... My advisor over at South Bay BMW in Cali said that it had to do with my Bluetooth!? Anyhow, he did a system upgrade and since then I haven't had the issue. He described the issue with the SOS error as being a communication error with my cell phone? Not necessarily my cell phone being eff'd up but more or less the connection between the phone and the blue tooth. I had a iPhone 3GS if that makes a difference to anyone out there, and haven't had it happen with my iPhone 4? Seems like the system update fixed it for my 07 e92.

I just had it happen the other day for the very first time. I have the iphone 4, not sure if it is a factor or not. A buddy has the same car as me 2006 330i he has had it happen several times. In all cases of his and mine it reset itself in a few minutes. I guess you just have to hope that remains the case.

Yea so after scanning my car I get a bluetooth error under my TCU module so it is indeed bluetooth related.
I have a 3GS, jailbroken on 4.1. The 3GS should be supported but I can't go by that because I am jailbroken. I guess I'll have to disable bluetooth for awhile and see if it really is the phone that is causing this error. |
