Who has NOT had problems with their N54

So I am moving from a g35 coupe to an 07 335I. I am picking the car up on Friday and have been trying to do some research on the vehicle. After reading these forums I am a little worried about all the problems with the N54. My car is out of warranty. My question is.... how many of you have actually had zero or very few problems with their N54 vehicles. Also what year is your vehicle, miles, mods, etc. I plan on running JB+ and DCI for now in hopes to limit problems associated with very high hp. Thanks in advance.

Do regular maintenance and you'll be fine.

Have 75K miles on e92, JB4, Dci, downpipes, intercooler
HPFP replaced once, didn't need to be replaced though. No major repairs

No fuel pumps replaced here in the last 40,000 miles. Had to fix more on my roommates' Civic than my car.

74k on mine. Procede/meth since 50k. No issues except for HPFP x 2.

Buddy had the same car with 36k - HPFP, door locks, serpentine belt break and car left on blocks.

Luck of the draw I guess.

The problems dont arise from high HP or modding, they arise because there are certain flaws in the vehicle hardware, even stock.

'09 335 w/no issues, although only 27k miles. Dealer replaced HPFP during my last oil change w/o me asking. Didn't have any issues with it, they just replaced it due to recall on older version.

I made the move from a 06 G35 coupe to a 07 335i coupe and haven't had any major issues with my 335i yet...I will admit that the G35 is pretty bulletproof and has slim to no issues compared to the 335i..

But like the others said above..with regular maintainence you should have no issues... Just be ready for a few extra dollars out of your pockets to maintain compared to the G35

Btw there are some things the BMW will never replace about the G35 but speed wise the 335i is a night and day difference between the FBO G35 I had...!! You will have fun

No problems here, but I've only put about 6k on mine since Sept 2011. Procede/PWM meth, otherwise stock. I think the rear turbo looks pretty new, can't see the front turbo well enough to determine. Pump has been done before, but is not the latest. We'll see. I bought an extended warranty with mine. I've only changed the plugs and cleaned the intake valves. Went through rear tires pretty fast, though.

U own a Sports car. Expect to pay at least ten percent of the new sticker price of the car u own. This is how much money in my opinion u will spend on repairs throughout the cars life. ATLEAST. The n54 does have flaws and must need a fixing now And then.

59k miles here been tuned since 46k.. so far so good; the recalls were performed hpfp and injectors but so far no problems.. I can't tell if I'm just paranoid or it's always been there but I'm hearing a faint turbo whine at low speeds between 1500-2000 rpm.. the trans I have no idea lol it has its quirks but from what I read it's normal for the steptronic.. just do regular maintenance and enjoy!

Thanks all, I have just been reading some horror stories and wanted to hear some good news. I am flying one way to pick it up and driving it back 800 miles. The car has 42k miles and all maintanance was done including updated hpfp. I have had a BMW dealer go over it and look for any codes.. all looks good. Just hoping for a good experience with my first BMW.
Jeff, as far as higher hp goes... I just worry about it being harder on the injectors and turbos which I know can be very expensive to replace.

The N54 overall has turned out to be a pretty reliable piece of hardware.

HPFP has been problematic, but latest version seem to sort out most of that and the warranty was extended to 10 years, so nothing to really worry about except the the inconvenience of taking it in to get replaced if necessary.

There was an injector recall for some early injectors, should have been performed on most cars by now, but just have BMW run the VIN and verify if it was in the range and had it done.

07/08's some had wastegate rattle issues - generally they cropped up in the first 50k.

Those really are the only major problems, otherwise they seem to be pretty stout, it is the platform BMW tunes on, not the N55 and has held up to serious modifications and mileage so far!

I've yet to find a forum that post good news about their vehicle. For every 1 negative thread there 100's of people enjoyin their car seamlessly. Mine never left me on the side of the road and thats all that matters. However, it would be foolish of me to say this is the most reliable car I've ever owned, cause it isnt.

The injectors wont fail from high HP, they fail cause DI is still a new technology and they are still working out the kinks, just like Audi. The turbo's if pushed beyond their efficiency of course will. However, like any machine, they eventually fail over-time. If the plan is to keep your turbo's for 10+ years I recommend towing the car to the grocery store

The turbo's usually get replaced more times then not from faulty wastegates, another common failure point but not necessarily related to high hp or tuning as it happens on stock vehicles as well.

Otherwise enjoy the car and have fun.

My 335i has had no warranty claims to the power train. Only thing covered under warranty was an oil filter housing gasket during my free oil change and the dealer fixed it proactively. 32k miles now.

Now that the HPFP and injector issues have been mostly resolved, it appears this platform is fairly reliable.

I was actually considering getting rid of my 335i this week for a g35 because I am always nervous about the n54 but when it came down to it I couldn't say bye to such a great car. The car is well worth the extra money.

I bought my CPO 335 with 39 k on it and now I am at 60 K. I have had zero issues at all. I had the HPFP replaced once not because it failed. The dealer replaced it out of the blue last time I had the car in. My buddy has a 2008 G37 and that thing lives at the dealership. He is always jealous of my 335 and how I never have any issues.

I make 410whp and 440 ft-lbs of torque on only 3 parts. Vishnu Procede Rev 3, DCI and Vishnu PWM meth kit. I have had these parts installed for over a year now and have had zero issues. If your looking at getting this car have no worries. I highly recommend going the Procede route. You can have the parts removed in less than an hour and have it back to stock if you need to. If you got any questions let me know and I can help you out.
