RC Cars
Are there any members on here into their RC Cars? I am looking for a bit of advice into buying one, one that would be suitable to use on the beach. Where we live the beach in summer is rock hard & flat and goes out for miles. My lad is four years old and I promised him one for the spring / summer
Any advice would be good |

There's a few folk on here who can help. Matt (335diesel) certainly is interested amongst others...

I did a weird impulse buy and got one of these but from Oz.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-1-10-BRUSH...item3a62bf419f Got whacked for £45 for import tax (!!) which hurt. Then killed the ESC after 20 mins so had to replace it. And then kept chewing up spur gears so got some custom cast in steel. Then I killed the motor axle so had to buy a new motor... Finally I managed to get it sorted and it absolutely flies! It's got a brushless electric motor and does around 45mph when run on a powerful 11.1v Lipo battery (another £40 for two!). I've just killed the ESC again but have a spare! Basically they need a fair bit of tlc and fettling but when they DO work, they are great fun. I'm not expert as can be seen by my failed attempt at buying cheaply (!) but have learned a fair bit. A very poor vid: |

I've a nitro buggy (Hyper 7 with the uprated engine). Absolutley flys (probably 70 mph+) and is great fun. As Matt has said they often need a lot of tlc and break easily (especially when crashed at 70 mph!). Nitro cars are more expensive than the electric and take more to set up correctly, they're also very noisey so you need to take care where you use them. Obviously they don't have reverse like the electrics, but do have disc brakes!
I'm not sure a beach is the best place, and sand will wear components fast, even on a model with decent ground clearance. probably better, if that's teh only spot you can use, to buy one at the toy end of the market (usually £40 ish) and accept that it'll need replacing. Probably more 4 year old friendly too!

How much does the ESC cost to replace? Can you get one rated at higher than 70A? Is it full-throttle start and stops that kills it?

Thanks guys. I my look for something a little more than a toy. But even if I only get a summer out of it then thats ok.
I'll have a look at some mid range electric ones and see what's on offer with them. |

Kadesad - this looks like a lot of fun and should be fairly robust:

I also have an old Alfa 155 DTM also. Ive had that since 1995 but its beat up from using it alot when I lived in Italy. Also the fact I was a kid at the time.
