Wow!

An auto may have just snatched the win!

Yes, cars have definitely moved on.

I wonder what the next 5-10 years will be like and whether or not we will see the same level of improvement over cars of today...

Modern performance is a lot to do with everything having a turbo.

I'd have expected the 320d to win, that said the 320d is still a good few hundred kilos more than that M3!

Both drivers useless at launching..

1/4mile times are nothing without the trap speed. The E30 can run faster than a 16.0..

I used to do 16's in a 318.

Put 3 bends in the road

And it wouldn't be anything like as close.

Progress? Moved on????? Drive both and tell me which one is better. 0-60 and sprint times aren't the be all and end all of driving.

I actually shudder to think what we will be driving in 20 years time.... Or rather what we won't be driving because if the powers that be have their way we will all be in 100cc twin air Eco safety boxes that are being driven by computers guided by Google satellites.

It's progress for diesel engine tech. I'm not saying that one is better than the other

I've had a F30 320d as a courtesy car for a day and I was very surprised how well it pulled. TBH, 0-30mph, there would not be a lot in it against my 330d. The 320d is very lively off the mark. But after that the 330d flies and the 320d runs out of puff in comparison.
