328xi or 335i?
Hey guys,
I'm new to the fourm, and I'm currently looking to purchase a 2007/2008 335i or a 328xi. I just can't make up my mind about it. I don't know if I should go for power, or scacrifice that and pay a couple thousand less but still get AWD. I just wanted other people's opinion on the topic. I am planning to drive the car all year long which would include the winters, and I'm located in Toronto. So any information on maintence on both cars, and differences beteween owning them would really help me out. Also I was wondering if the CPO was worth the extra bucks as well. I've actually found a 335i I like, its blue on beige. 2007 335i NAV/PREM/SPORT/ComfortAccess 75,000 clicks $31,000 +taxes How is that deal? |

I have driven my car the last three winters and never had any issues, just get a really GOOD set of snow tires and you'll be fine.
Looking for performance then the 335 is the way to go. If you get a performace chip for the 335, i think you'll have all the power you'll ever need (it transforms the car to what it should have been!!). Either car is great, just what are your requirements.. 100% go with a CPO car, you dont want one of these cars without warranty...$$$$ to fix

Thanks guys for the input.
So if i decide to go with the 328 instead, do you guys think the CPO is neccessary? And when does the high pressure fuel pump problem usually occur? Higher km's? Also, how much should i be looking at if its a CPO 335i w/ nav. |

The CPO warranty will on average cost more than it will cover in repairs, just like all warranties. Whether or not it is worth it depends on your tolerance for risk and your ability to pay out of pocket if something major happens. If you can only just barely afford the car and couldn't manage if something major went wrong with it, you should get the extended warranty (or, better yet, buy a less expensive car so you're left with some spare cash just in case). If you have plenty of cash to cover unexpected problems, you're better off over the long haul in going uninsured: even if you're unlucky this time, on average you will come out ahead if you take the money you would have spent on extended warranties and set up a general fund to self-insure all of your breakables. If you're somewhere in between, you have to make a choice based on your financial situation and risk tolerance. If you expect that a two year old car will probably require thousands in repair over the next year or two, you probably shouldn't be buying it in the first place. One thing to consider, though, is that a newer BMW that isn't being sold via a dealer as a CPO may well have been in an accident, so be extra careful in checking it out. |

It depends on what you want or do with the car esp during winter. Do you go to the mountains for snowboarding or skiing?
You cant really compare RWD with Winter tires and AWD with winter tires. If you have AWD and Winter tires your car is a tank! I also go snowboarding. Most of us here want power as much as we can get thats why you see some ppl getting a chip, exhaust, intake, etc even though some of them never use it or go to the track. Some ppl are a bit more practical so they get the 328 cause they figure they do not need the extra power. I want both power and AWD thats why I got the 335xi plus I used to go Auto-X with my previous car and I am planning to do it again and some tracking next year. Also why in your profile it says you have a 07 E92 335i?

the price is good.
get a CPO 335 BMW, or buy a lexus. that extra few thousand dollars you pay for an equivalent equipped bmw 335i is well worth it, consider it the price for an extended warranty. although the 335i engine is popular, it doesn't come without problems, especially high mileage ones. so warranty is a must. a non-cpo 328xi i think would be ok. |

As far as tuning goes I'm really not that big on doing any performance modding. The only mod's I'll probably do are cosmetic. The power on it is enough for me at this point in time. So If I'm not really going to touch the engine do you think it'll prevent a lot of the problems related to the 335i engine? |

Hey guys,
I have a question about the factory warranty. If i buy this car which has no CPO on it, can I go and extend my warranty with bmw? And do I have to go to the dealership the car was initially bought at? Also, I've been reading that BMW extended the warranty on the HPFP for 10yers/100km or something along those lines. Would I automatically get that? |

335 all the way, especially if it has sport package. That is, if you consider yourself a performance car enthusiast. 335 has 80 hp on the 328, plus more standard equipment. And the 335 is so easy to modify, if you want, giving it 130+ hp more than the 328.
4WD is nice, but it only helps you accelerate not stop or turn. I have a 335i, with Dinan stage 2 software, and I ski in the Rocky Mountains every weekend from Nov through Apr. RWD and Nokian Hakkapelittaa snow tires get me easily through snow up to the floorboards with ease. That said -xi has almost 3/4 inch more groud clearance. So its a tradeoff - drive both before you decide. Either way, if you plan on driving in winter get some REAL snow tires. Good snow tires will reduce your stopping distance by 20% on cold dry roads, 30-35% on snow or ice. If it prevents even one minor accident, they pay for themselves. CPO - is about peace of mind, especially on a 335 (known HPFP issues). Also, if you are financing a big amount, CPO comes with discounted finance rates. The interest savings might cover the extra CPO cost. One thing to remember - never buy a non-CPO car from a Stealership. If they dealer won't CPO it, that means they KNOW of a problem that prevents the car from passing the inspection. |

335i CPO all the way.
Picked mine up in June of this year from T&C BMW and LOVING it!!! Just invest in a good set of winters like others have said on this thread and you should be all set. In terms of pricing, I paid $38K for a similar set up CPO with only 47K kms (all options except Active steering) and they threw in brand new Non-RFT's of my choice, a 2010 Nav DVD and 2 Paint Pens. 335 with CPO. I made that decision last year over a brand new 328i that was better equipped. the engine just gob-smacks all rational thought from your brain I had a brand new G37 rental in Scottsdale a couple of weeks ago, it felt like it accelerated like a dog in comparison.
