Was driving my 2011 328i xDrive around today when it began to rain. With no real threat I drove around no problem. However... I came to a puddle that I somewhat hesitantly drove though. Now of course this title is negative so heres the bad part. While driving through the large puddle a large rig came barreling by. The rig created a wave that drowned my engine bay and the car stalled. I tried starting it again with no luck... then waited for the rain to dissipate and tried yet again with no success. Called roadside assistance and they came within the hour. While the car was being raised up to the flat bed water came pouring out of the exhaust (BMW Perf), leading me to believe that the entire system was water logged. Fortunately no water bled into the interior. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen and/ or know if the car will be ok.

I tried to start it once right after it stalled in the water.. then realized it wasnt the best idea and stopped.

So do you have after market intake on it ?

if anything that might have been your biggest mistake... you dont want the water to flow into your engine and everything is closed when the car is off. But the car did stall from excessive water so that may have been the intial problem...

Had you not started it in the puddle the car might have been ok. Last year same thing happened to my work buddy during the hurricane last september. He drove his accura into what he figured was a small puddle but off course looks can be deceiving. The puddle turned out to be deep and caused his car to stall. He then tried to start it again but to no avail. The car was totalled at that point.

You should be ok as long as you didnt ingest water into your intake and hydrolock the engine. Water doesn't compress and if its gets into the combustion chamber, goodbye motor.
Your intake sits high so its unlikely you didnt suck any in. Some water in the exhaust and in the engine compartment is no big deal. Wet electronics probablly caused the stall. Some drying time and WD40 hopefully will be all it needs. Let us know how it turns out.

If your car is stock you may be able to have your insurance company fit the bill. I dont think they will warranty it considering its not a manufacturers defect, but the insurance company should kick in since it happened on the road and it was out of your control.

Completely agree, this is not warranty work. This is a job for your insurance company.
