New F31 330d Touring 0-60 5.6s, 55mpg

I've posted in the new UK F30 section, but the launch of the new F31 330d seems worth a discussion here too as it was such a popular E91 model.

http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691202

Very nice with grest spec and looks dandy. They all get an auto electric tailgate.

258bhp, 55mpg, 0-60 5.6secs. 135g/co2

On BMW.co.uk - UK M Sport 330d Auto is £37,700, quite a bit more than the 4pot 328i M Sport Manual (£33,400) which still does 60 in 6 secs and 43mpg

6.5" idrive, Bluetooth, ParkDC, USB and Leather are all standard (though assume this has no nav). No xenons as std. This standard kit seems the same on the 328i as it is on the 330d (though as above the auto is standard now on the 330d & included in the price above).

More pics here....
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690502

When are UK M Sport Tourers landing?

Must say the 330d looks very tempting, but if buying new it would be hard not to be swayed by a manual 328i.

Pano roof looks similar, and saddle brown still looks great.

Finally, compulsory red 328i

F30 is ugly inside and out (front end). Ill never get used to it as I did with E90.
Proper E90 LCI M-Sport is a beauty !!!

Of course BMW will put new engines in F30 for the customers to think it over but its not me - sorry !

When you factor in the 2k for the auto box the price difference closes quite a bit.

Wonder what the performance of the 335d or 340d will be ??

You will grow to like it.

Although I never really did like the 1st incarnation of the E90.

I like the figures but not the new shape ... will wait until I see a few tourings and a coupe ... the saloon doesn't do it for me.

I see the new 135i hatch has been announced - that also appeals ... as I love hatches and the 135i never appeared in that form last time.

I do love the fact though that the new 330d gives mid 40's urban and yet is 5.5 to 60

I agree, we seem to have short memories, as every new model gets a slamming from some folks. I've posted some comments in the other threads that run like "not as good as the previous model" .

The E90 was such and "ugly car", "nothing like the E46" which was "the perfect 3-series". "Awful proportions" and that "terrible minimalist, non focused interior" was "such a poor design" from the man viewed as worse than the devil, a certain Chris Bangle. "I'll never buy one, I'll keep my E46" was a common cry. I suppose Chris Bangle is now rated as a saint.

Fickle bunch, the F30 will be the bee's knees by the time the next model comes along. Always been like this as far back as I can remember. I recall how the E36 was so "non BMW", "what are they doing with the headlights", "BMW quality has gone to the dogs" etc., etc. Why? The outgoing E30 was carrying the flag.

Good to know the E90/1 has at least got the recognition it always deserved, I'm sure the F30/1 will soon get the crown.

Give it 3 or 4 years and a lot of guys on here will be driving the F30/1/2 and reckoning they are the greatest thing on the road.

As an E91 owner, I think the new F31 is much nicer and the stats are very impressive.

Interesting that the 330d is referred to as having a "low friction" engine - always the problem with 6-pots I guess is the fact they much have more friction losses than an equivalent 4-pot - which I guess is why we have the 4-pot 328i. I hope the technology is well proven!

Not too sure about the blue trim in the M Sport, but suspect you can probably change this. The new M steering wheel looks great however.

Must admit someone had a new 320d "modern" trim at work last week - and I didn't really like the interior colour scheme.

Looks like a F31 330d M Sport will need Xenons, Nav and Bum Heaters and will be around £40,000 list. Chuck in the pano roof and memory seats and it'll be around £42,000. So looks like it'll have to be Summer 2014 when it'll be worth half that.....

330d auto only. Some will find that hard to swallow.

Looks like the F30 330d M-Sport saloon is back too . Good to see the 6 pot diesel again.
Same 0-60 5.6 as the tourer but 57.6mpg and 129 CO2!!!! £100 a year road tax. Frigging awesome - for an auto! Looks like its auto only then.

Just waiting and hoping for an 335d F30 to be released. That really will be amazing with the 313bhp engine in it - if it happens.

One thing seems odd - how a 13bhp increase in power over the E9X 330d (and very slight reduction in weight) can knock 0.5 second off the 0-60?
When we get into the realms of 0-60's of less than 6 secs you normally need near 50 odd bhp to get that kind of result.

This performance/economy mix is superb. I do wonder though how they manage to get this 0-60 without xdrive - after all, it's not a massive power hike?

I agree with the comments about the looks - we'll all love it soon. People don't like change. I see it all the time, especially when Facebook change the look of the site! It's funny seeing people setting up groups to try and get the old look back. Never lasts long, but resurrected again at the next change were people start lobbying to get back the look that they previously hated!

Slightly off topic, but to save starting a new thread and relevant to 'new engine' chat, I was just reading about the F30 335i hybrid - 335bhp, 0-60 5.2, 2.5 miles range on battery only. Interesting.

Its an 8-speed auto with a reduced friction engine. Both these factors will mean less power required to achieve better results.

I've loved the look of the F30 ever since the first shots. This was confirmed by viewing on in my local showroom, I couldn't detect any significant quality changes (though I had been hoping for a hike in quality of plastics etc). Time will tell what the quality of the leather is, though i suspect it is similar to that on our E9xs

It is a shame there is no manual option in the 330d, I would imagine this is down to it being purely the choice of the enthusiast. The main volume of sales has been auto in E46 and E90 330d's and I suspect manuals have proved hard to shift for some dealers. I had a manual E46 330d and loved it, though I love the autos on the E90 335d's I've had (though I wouldn't buy auto without paddles). I do somewhat hanker after a manual at some point again, unless a triple turbo diesel variant is released in the the F30. That said, I might consider an F10 550d touring next.

Not quite, while the new box will have acceleration and economy benefits the lower friction engine will only aid economy. 258PS is the same whether generated by an engine with lots of friction or very little as it is measured externally with ancillaries attached. The small power bump over the E91 330D unit will help though of course.

I was wondering just the other day when the tourer would be out.

Liking the look of that!

I would assume this is down to how it is geared. The trade off being that the mid range acceleration would be hit (although 8 gears might save it there)

When the E91 first launched, I was smitten. I had not been taken by the E90 (I still don't think it looks right on the road) so was surprised.

This one however isn't doing it for me although seeing photos and seeing on in the flesh are 2 different things and as the others say, give it a couple of years and I am sure it will grow on me.

I am however not bothered that I didn't wait 6 months for this instead of buying the C350 when I did.

I do hope however that when I come to change in a couple of years, there is 335 or even 340 to look at. That could tempt me back but on the flip, the spy shots of the new C Class look amazing. No idea on engines but on looks, BMW should be worried.

We shall see
