BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics' Future Rival - Mercedes BIOME

According to Autocar, the Mercedes Benz Biome concept previewed for the LA Autoshow, is a preview of the company's answer to the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics in the mid-engined eco supercar category.

According to Autocar:

Quote:
Although the eco-friendly ‘grown from a seed’ body construction and organic drive system are fictional, the ground-hugging stance, exaggerated proportions and striking design lay the foundation for a new ecological supercar.

“There are elements within the design that could easily be progressed and developed for production. We were conscious during its development to ensure it wasn’t too limited or edgy. It had to be do-able without any significant changes,” says Hubert Lee, head of the California design studio.

The production powertrain would incorporate all of Mercedes-Benz’s extensive alternative drive know-how, just as BMW is doing with its Vision EfficientDynamics supercar, recently confirmed for production in 2013.

At 4040mm in length, 2500mm in width and 1200mm in height, the latest Merc concept is shorter than a C-class, much wider than the GL-class and lower than the SLK.

The BMW ED has a go-ahead for production. The competition doesn't even look like it has front wheels designed to turn. And knowing Mercedes, it'll somehow still go out of alignment immediately.

Well, the Mercedes is just a design study whereas the BMW VED is a rolling prototype which will go (with modifications, of course) into production.

I think Mercedes thinking for this car was "if we can't corner better than BMW, then we will change the roads- no corners at all."

Sure it can turn... I think I see a swiveling caster under the car in the first photo holding the whole thing up.

I hope they give it a little bit of a lift otherwise it won't be able to go over bumps along with not being able to turn

ohh man im so relieved. I thought mercedes was going to put out a monster, but this thing looks ... well i guess everyone already covered it. Anyways, if this is the kind of design path they are following, I say god speed and good luck.

BMW has their future designs looking great so far. Futuristic but still holding the elements of a sexy bavarian beauty. Mercedes just ended up making a UFO.... BMW has got their shit together, and from what im seeing, they have a nice little lead.

this will never get made....btw I currently have a rental while my 335is is being prepped for delivery...the rental is a Merc S430....the thing is literally like steering a boat...it corners as if the doors were made of concrete.

Bimmer's VED is epic and a reality which makes it so sweet...MB has a LONG way to go in catching up to BMW's creativity and sex appeal

The Efficient Dynamics concept actually looks really cool, and you can already see its influences beginning to permeate the line today. That Merc concept....the grey part in the center with their logo on it...immediately created image of a stubby in my head.
