The adapter is universal with the electrical/antenna connection to the car but specific to the phone. In other words, you need an adapter for whichever phone you have and it plugs into the car. If you change phones you need to unplug the old adapter and plug in the new one. Whether the iPhone works with your car is debatable but the adapter should fit.
Check this link: http://accessories.bmwusa.com/ItemVi...&productId=948 If your car doesn't have the baseplate/eject box/docking cradle you will need to have that installed before the phone adapter can be used; with the instructions it's quite easy. It requires two parts, the electronic cradle and a trim piece and is a 30 minute installation on an 2006 E90 330i but I doubt if it would be more for other years and models. The connections are all underneath the console and are accessed via the emergency brake boot.

I think the cradle above is to be used with the new 6NF smartphone option. Where did you find the page above ... I can't seem to find it at BMW USA. Thanks.

Smartphone option lets you access the data (like music) on the phone. It is different from this craddle. BMW actually sells craddles like this for a lot of phones. The only "smartphones" included are the Iphone and the Pearl. You can purchase a cradle if your BMW is wired for it; however the apps (media) will not be operative. Its only phone and music. Hope that answered your question. |

The second cradle works with option 6NF & 6VC (combo Box) The third cradle works when 6NF and 6NR (code to activate BMW Apps) Sports package has nothing to do with it, it comes down to the combination of what bluetooth options you have installed etc, Business Nav and so on. It can get very complicated, I ran the standard cradle in my X5 E79 2007 model, 2008 model and my 2009 model, they only had 6FL (USB) & Business Nav. My current model has 6NR, 6FL & 6VC and code 6NR (BMW Apps) so I can run any of the cradles depending what features I want. All you need is the standard cradle to just run the basic phone.

& do you have pre-install of 6NF? & or do you have Bluetooth & have connected your phone to the iDrive? Also give me (PM if you like) your vin number so I can check what options you have in your car?

If you give your local BMW dealer your VIN number he can tell you what options you have. I noticed your car is 2009 model, your combox maybe to old but can be replaced, but all the hardware is available to buy, its just a matter of how much you want to spend to get BMW Apps?

If you have Apps on your iDrive then you have 6NR, but just connecting the Apps/Media cradle does not give you Apps. The code 6NR has to be purchased as a retrofit kit & uploaded along with FSC activation code. If your car is built after April 2011 then there's a pretty good chance that the retrofit kit is available for you car as long as you have 6NF, 6FL & 6VC, otherwise you have to purchase the upgrade baseplate 6NF. PS. I see your car is a 2007 model? it will need newer hardware to get Apps working |
