i live in Denver , 40 min's away from boulder, but what i know that :
1-the streets there up and down , so it's hard to drive in the snow with rear wheel drive. 2- it's a small city but i went 4 time and never see cops there. 3-i would like to have e92 meet's, just let me know when u come will go cruising |

Hang out on Pearl Street and you will be enjoying life!
The roads are good and you're really close to the mountain twisties for gobbles of fun. However, you will need either snow/ice tires during the winter months or an AWD/FWD beater. Driving up to Lyons and Estes Park is a nice treat. |

Its a hippie town hahaha, not far from cow towns and right next to the foothills.
IBM is actually on the northeast end of Boulder, close to Longmont. Snow wise, that area gets a little more then other areas due to close proximity to the foothills. You WILL NEED SNOW TIRES if you plan to take it out at all on snow. I suggest winter tires anyway since our avg high in the winter is about 45 anyway. I got some 17's and blizzaks on mine, had 2 storms to test it and the car was fine. Im thinking of getting an SUV though as well for winter time and as well just to have for function. The first snow storm of the year there is a bunch of wrecks because people forget how to drive in the snow it seems. Our car will be fine though with snow tires, its the depth of the snow that gets it, 6"+ on the road the car turns into a plow, but traction is fine |

Moving to bolder? Yeah you need to get rid of that car and get your self a Subaru Outback!
Kidding aside (you will understand when you get there), you will be fine, just invest in a nice set of now tires. There are some great mountain roads to drive on near there. |

Discount Tire will take care of you. Don't be afraid to ask them to match the lowest price you find and they will. They can also hook you up with wheels. Or try Ebay...

I have a set of 235 blizak LM-25s. They are absolutely brilliant in the snow. I spent way too much money on my car to drive it 1/2 the year, i wont ever drive a beater. Don't feel like you have to.

Welcome! Roads to drive: 1) CO-72 aka "Peak to peak highway" http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...=UTF8&t=h&z=10 2) "Left Hand Canyon" http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...=UTF8&t=h&z=12 3) "Fourmile Canyon" http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...=UTF8&t=h&z=13 Note: These all have a lot of cyclists on them on say, a Saturday morning. Be careful. And finally, but not least: 4)http://www.highplainsraceway.com/lapping-days.html http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...77162&t=h&z=14 (The google map is a satellite photo taken before the track was built, but the coordinates are correct!) Cheers, Alex

You will like the roads around Boulder in the summer. Since you're at IBM, you're going to be on the outskirts of town. Are you going to be living in Boulder or a nearby city like Longmont? The winter won't be too bad for you. Last year I counted the number of days where there was actually snow on the main roads on a business day in Denver. 17 days. Boulder will probably be slightly higher than that, but the snow is usually cleared away or melted pretty quickly. Plenty of people get by with RWD cars on all-season tires, but snow tires or getting a FWD beater would be ideal, but certainly not necessary. In my high school years I drove a V8 Firebird with summer tires and I made it through it alive.

Boulder is a great place to live. I like it up there. Also, you can take the scenic drive up flagstaff. The winter up there is not too bad. There are a couple days out of the year that it would be impossible to drive but otherwise, you should have no problem with a RWD. The winters here isn't as bad as it use to be.

I call it the PRB - or People's Republic of Boulder...... Boulder is 20 miles surrounded by reality. cops are NAZIS.... other than that, and the copious amounts of potheads, its a nice place.
