OK just installed this....super easy if you are even slightly mechanically inclined!

Working:
Clown nose blinks fast then slowly when locking.
Door opening sets off (loud!) alarm when locked.
Motion sensor sets off alarm when locked.

Not working:
Chirping on lock/unlock.
panic alarm.
tilt sensor alarm.

Getting it activated next week!

Took the alarm to my dealer after having it sit around for a few months (always too busy to do the install). The SA calls me up later to say that the box is missing the siren and that I have to pay $230 to get a replacement. I talk to the shop manager who "gets to the bottom of it" and says the siren is in fact there, but that it doesn't work on my car (2008 e90 328xi). He says that they need to order the newer "power siren" because there's a service bulletin that basically says the old siren can't be programmed to my car. Of course the new siren can't be exchanged for the old one despite the fact that I bought the retrofit kit from an authorized dealer and it must be purchased for basically the same price as the kit.

Has anyone heard of this or seen a service bulletin stating as such?
I had the same thing happen to me when I took the car to my dealer for activation.
They said the computer would not activate the retrofit alarm.
They indicated I had the wrong siren and that I need part number 6579189818.
Of course they offerred to sell me the new siren for as much as I paid for the entire original kit.

Anybody had this problem and get it resolved?

Just got it activated and everything works! Cost was 1hr labor. I do have the options now to have it chirp and flash lights when locking or unlocking, chirp only, lights only, or nothing.

Is it true that with the OEM alarm that you don't have to insert the key fob to start the car? It just needs to be in your pocket?

no you're thinking of the "Comfort Access" option.

comfort access & alarm..

Comfort access is an option you have to get at extra cost. In convertibles it also will partial open the hardtop so you can get access to the tiny trunk in addition of starting/open the doors by just being in the proximity of the vehicle. This system is temperamental, and it never works when you are trying to show it off, or in rain or when you carrying packages...I am confused w/ the alarm feature though, for in my e93, production date of Sept 09, unless you order it from the factory you don't have the oem wiring as it is in the case of other models. I tried to get alarm kit, but the dealer could not find the wiring harness that was supposed to be there. So I cannot have the alarm system even if I wanted...(PS: there is an DIY that someone posted where he actually went to the trouble to run alarm harness by re-wiring it by himself!)

Is this the one you're talking about?

Also, just out of curiosity, how do you make a post without the tutorial ratings?
<=== I find the low rating kind of pointless.

I install alarm and 4 dwa interior sensor on my E93 and I have dealer program. Alarm cost $150, 4 dwa sensor $80 (retail 160 each, man I love eBay), and program $133. Great deal!!! It work great but the volume is to low. Anybody have low volume on their alarm?

Does anyone had a dealer in SoCal activated the alarm at reasonable rate. I have asked several dealers in SoCal but they all wanted too much, the range from 200+ to 400. Thanks for the information guys, great forum. I instaled the alrm myself using te information in this forum.

My dealer only charged me 30 minutes labor for coding...in reality all they do is enter code and wait for the changes, it's not like they're actively working the whole time.

Alarm has be coded in to fully work. If not activated, only some functions work

Nobody has clarified what kit is correct out of the two kit numbers listed on this thread.

What kit number or individual part numbers are required for 08 E92?

I retrofitted my OEM alarm and it was a breeze! It took me about 25mins to install the hardware parts of it and it took me about 20mins to code the car myself. I am very pleased with the alarm and it's always nice to have the BMW chirp!

For low volume issues, coding needs to be redone to change a couple of values to the correct ones. Coders should also be able to activate it after it's installed. You can also ask for other features at the time you get your alarm coded!
