Talking Speed Traps / RADAR ALERTS on GPS -- COOL !!!

Something i wanted to share with you guys! I got a Garmin GPS for Xmas and installed a so called "custom POI (point of interest) and now whenever I get close to one of the 1400 known speed trap locations in Canada I get an alert .. the same thing for red light cameras ...

for those of you interested: this works with any Garmin GPS (probably with other brands too). all you need is the POI loader from the Garmin website and the POI file / database from http://www.gpspassion.com

I don't know which model you have, but my biggest complaint with my Garmin model (I think it's the 660) is that it doesn't have a QWERTY layout for data input. Who the fack uses that stupid straight keyboard layout from Garmin?!

Although my speed trap maps are pretty good, there are some locations that show up where I've never ever ever seen a cop car...

Very nice, that could be handy, especially when you're driving in an unfamiliar area.

I agree with you .. the keyboard layout sucks .. i wish there was some sort of voice input option or handwriting recognition ...

BTW: where do you get your MAPS from ?

I actually bought a database off of ebay - something like $10 - $15 or something like that. Can't remember the name of the vendor. Lotsa POI for the GTA. They send me monthly updates too, but I haven't really installed the updates. I'll try to look up the name of the vendor...

I Certainly agree with "328Toronto" if you want to be comfartable on roads just follow the traffic rules this will help you for your safety. I was basically a rash driver who never care about the traffic rules, what i came to know from my experiences is that you need to respect cops on road and your wife at home . One of the place where you can find information about the traffic lights is trapster . It provides you with useful information regarding the road traps, alerts about traps set by cops and moreover keeps you on the right side of the law. It will give you all the necessary information that you want. You just need to login. If you find anything interesting thing in your visits, do share with me.

using Tomtom One XL.. it was only $150 this Christmas. Not bad but sometimes the maps don't conform to the road, causing you to go "off the road" at times. It does not have the speedtrap warnings though.
