Engine overheated!
So I haven't used my e92 328 for a week since i wasn't in town for spring break. Anyway today I started my car and drove for less than 10 min then this sign "engine temp" comes up ! two min later "engine overheated stop the car and turn engine off" ! it's not that hot here, it's around 73F so I don't know whats going on :S Oh and the fan started to work harder to cool the engine down but it didn't work.
The car is turned off now and will leave it cool down for 30 min then turn on again. Any suggestions ? |

Your univesity buddies stole your spare key and have been joy riding for the past five days.
haha. It's probably just a sensor of some kind. If it does the same thing after a second and third restart I'd get the dealership on the phone without anymore delay. Hopefully your ride is still under warranty. If not, Deutschland might have just pick pocketed you. |

Water pump? The pump is electric, so it will normally throw codes as to what's wrong. Have you have any low coolant warnings, or checked the coolant level recently?
Chances are you need to have it towed to a dealer or indie shop. |

I've had a water pump failure and it will not throw any code you can see other that the water temp warnings. It may store a passive fault. It could be a number of things. Check the coolant level. If it's low, check for leaks. Other than that, you need to take it to a shop so they can scan and troubleshoot it.

So it's the water pump that needs to be replaced and the workshop just told me it will cost $1192!

Yup waterpump for sure. It's not a matter of "if" but "when." Mine went out at the 60K mark, good thing it's CPO.
