Options to get more power from 2013 328i CV
Hi Guys...
Just got a 2013 328i CV (used -- it has 700 miles on it). Got it for $14,000 below sticker price. Good deal! I am coming from a 2011 335i -- very fast! So, although a cool car, this 328i is VERY SLOW to me. And, to make it worse, I have the automatic. I am very happy with the car -- very fun to drive, but I could really use more passing power. This car is not made for speed!! IT NEEDS MORE POWER!!! Is there a factory computer "re-fresh"? How can I get 20-30 more horsepower without voiding warranty?? Any ideas??? Thanks guys.

OP: There are options out there for you. For example: http://www.n54tuning.com/index.php?_...&productId=109. Not sure about how reliable / good it is but it's an option. You might want to check over in the f30post forums. |

Best option: Realize your mistake quickly and sell. Then buy what you actually want. Otherwise you will spend the next X years driving something you don't want. I did I compromised on my first car, when I could have afforded a lot more and I drove around with a 160 HP Camaro instead of a 275 HP Z28.
Your other option: Is to get a lobotomy and forget that you ever had a 335i. |

That said if this is the case best bet for OP is the 3-stage IM coupled with some kind of powerbox or flash tune, with an intake and exhaust. That's about as good as it'll get for the N52's. |

Not much you can do for power on a 328i. Any mods (especially performance wise) are possible grounds for void of warranty.
Seems like you've been spoiled by a 335i (possibly MT). It's hard to go back. Sounds like you need some N54 / N55 love back in your life. |

Isn't the N20 a turbo though? I mean, it's only a matter time I imagine before they start cranking out power mods for it, no?
That said, OP will save thousands in gas with that ECO mode- seriously! I am also sure there was a good reason, perhaps a life event or a financial event, that made OP make the choice he did. What the heck is a CV anyway? |

OP, you either have to accept the fact that you bought the heaviest N52 with Steptronic and it will not accelerate like a 335i. On the other hand it is one of the smoothest motors around and ideal for a touring car like the 328i 'vert. If that doesn't work for you, sell it, eat the loss, and buy what you want. Tom |

Guys....thanks the answers.....but think you mostly misunderstood. I do not have buyer's regret. I am 100% happy with the car. The car is a cruiser and NOT made for 0-60 runs. I know it's tons slower than my 335...no kidding!!! And, obviously to the guy who made the comment about the MT, YES, I wish I had the manual transmission (again, I am not a fool!).
I got the car because I live in FLORIDA and wanted a CONVERTIBLE. What's wrong with wanting this??? I could not afford a 335 convertible ($48,000 for a used 2012). And another reason: I got the car because it is a 2013 with 700 miles on it and has 3 1/2 of warranty left. The car even smells like new. It is a great car that still is basically "new" without the new-price. Saying all that, I wouldn't mind having 20-30 more horsepower: that is the reason for my posting. Hey.....I am only human!!! thanks again for the responses......any other ideas about getting a bit more power I'd appreciate. If not, I will like the car just the same!!! (But, if I win the lotto, I will buy a 335i CV with a stick shift, have no doubt!!!) Quote:

Trolls are coming out from the bridge. I'm guessing OP got his NA E93 because it was a drop-top, powertrain be damned!

Performance exhaust + AA Tune + 3-stage intake manifold swap is a good start.
Cost should be around 2-3k. If that still isn't working, headers + Intake + lighter wheels Big hurdles are the obvious AT and added vert heft. GL-OP

As far as your question is concerned, you have all the normal options that most NA engines have. New heads or port and polish the heads you have. New exhaust. ECU tune. New Internals. Of these, the only one that will be somewhat economical is the ECU tune. |

Intake manifold, tune & headers will put you right around 280bhp. Just 20bhp less than what a stock 335 is rated, if I am not mistaken. I am sure you would have the best of both worlds in that configuration. Expect to spend a couple thousand to achieve that.

Go and see AA down in Miami and have custom tune with 3stage intake manifold and add performance exhaust for sound, should take you to around 270 hp.

lol- You did drive it before you bought it?
Its a different animal- Its never going to have the performance of your 335- you can spend $2000, and even if you got 40 more HP, you still won't be satisfied. Drop that top and enjoy it, or sell it.
