My car is a December 2010 with no USB port in the armrest, I dont think I have 6NR, think I have 6NF, is there an easy way to tell as I do have BMW Services Online active.

Firstly http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html should tell you everything you have. It's not infallible though: I've got factory fitted DAB which doesn't appear on it.

6NF is video/baseplate and uses the USB interface to connect combined with the video to CIC, if you dont have CIC you probably dont have 6NF and have the old style TCU? (can you fit a baseplate for iphone etc?)

BMW online is simply telematrics available via TCU/MULF and replaced by combox in later cars.

Combox is under the boot lining, right hand side of car.

Was the car built Dec 2010 or was that when it was registered?

Look under the bonnet and find the sticker which says when the car was actually built. It may of been sat around for a year before it was registered and that could make a difference to modules fitted to the car.
