I just removed my bumper using this DIY....thanks so much! I had to install an intercooler myself on Rhino Rhamps....not fun.

One thing to note....my car has the headlight washers which are attached to the cut outs on the bumper by 2 springs each. Be VERY careful when first pulling the bumper away as you can damage the springs like I did. Now I need to get 1 new spring from the stealership........

when I removed mine...the middle mesh one pulled right out with a little finesse...I basically taped around the bumper with some painters tape to protect the tape...just push it in around the edges until it unclips..helps to remove some of the bolts underneath the front bumper so you can work it a little better..

The side mesh grilles I cut em right out and it took some work to finesse the new ones in but I did the whole thing without removing the bumper.

I did not paint my mesh grilles I just bought the black ones from the 328 coupe..you will have to midify them slightly if you have an oil cooler but it is a piece of cake.


Removing the kidneys...just remove the top 4 torx shown in the first pic pull the top of the bumper out and start unclipping and pulling out at the same time working your way around...one you get your hanf back there you will be able to feel how they unclip

Holy shit man, this DIY was sick. From this alone i learned how too..

Relating to the bumper...mine took a direct hit from, of all things, an oil drain plug that came loose from a car a couple lanes away from me then bounced into my car. If I remove the bumper, can I heat it up from the backside to some extent and then press the dent out? Would anyone have a suggestion?

Great write-up on the removal. Can do that but not sure about the fix for the dent.

Great writeup!!! I followed this last night and almost everything went smooth as butter!! I say almost cuz I did wind up messing up the springs for BOTH headlight washers....seriously, those were a PITA!!

Luckily I don't need the headlight washers just yet and I'll replace them in a few months when I've got some time to take the front off again.....until then, I'll just take out the fuse so that I don't turn them into high-velocity projectiles next time I'm cleaning my windshield....

the m front bumper bolts on the same way right? is the oil cooler cover easy to remove too? from the looks of it, it's just held on by the bolts you see.

Not sure about the m bumper bolts, but the oil cooler cover is easy to take off...

Yeah, I had an issue with the headlight washers as well. You can actually take the springs and cover off the headlight washer arm and try to compress them some. Since they are already stretched, just open the cover enough so you can grab the headlight washer arm and pull it out. Detach the springs from the arm (the just slip out) and let it go. Then just grab the headlight washer arm and pull it back out to them back on. Mine were a little loose, but after a couple days they compressed again, and are flush just like they were before I took the bumper off.

Woah, thats a great idea!! LOL, the springs were both stretched to the point where the little cover looked like it was about to fall off so I threw a little piece of double sided tape in there to keep it shut until later on but I'm gonna do this tonite.....THANKS!!!!

yup...same here. a lil double sided tape to hold the covers on. i've actually disabled mine by pulling the fuse. i'll probably end up ordering new covers which come with the springs so i can fix it...eventually.

I was very interested in this information because I recently had to take my car to the dealership to have the headlight washers repaired. One day, they just failed to retract. Anyway, the dealership had to replace both nozzle units. As a result, they had to remove my front bumper fascia. I was worried that my bumper fascia and Proform film protection would be damaged. Fortunately, this did not happen.

However, upon first seeing my car after the repair, I thought that the hood was not closed all the way. It was closed. The problem is that the gap between the kidney grills and the hood is now about 3 mm greater after the reinstallation of the front fascia. To determine this, I measured a few new E92's on the lot. The factory gap is about 6 mm. Mine is now about 9 mm. I know that 3 mm does not sound like a big difference, but it is! It looks obviously different and f***ed up to me now. Sorry for not having any pictures. I left my car at the dealership for them to revisit on Monday. I am wondering if I should let the dealership try to fix it or if I should do it myself.

Questions to those who have removed their front bumper fascias: Is there any vertical 'play' in this body panel? If so, what screw numbers in this DIY affect the gap width in question?

Side questions to those E92 (non-xi) owners without the Cold Weather Package: Are there no headlight washer nozzles behind the headlight washer nozzle doors? If not, do your headlight washer doors still hinge open?

is there anyway you can install the bumper and have gaps between the front bumper and the hood? more then before?

the dealer took my bumper off to fix my headlight and i feel like the gap is bigger? but it seems like to all lines up and bolts up?

Lets see...you might can check the 4 bolts on the bumper above the grilles. You could unscrew them a bit and then try to maneuver the bumper forwards or backwards and then tighten down again.

thanks for the tips AU, after looking and checking out my bumper, there is basically nothing you can do or can do by accident to set off the clerance from the front bumper and hood, which is a good thing, but there is something you can do to align it by, like what you said, by moving it forward or backwards.
