226 vs 704 ( M-Sports vs Sports Suspension)
just took the plunge and ordered a 335d today. (delivery date 27/07/2007 )
Quote I got couple of months back had the 226-Sports suspension settings as standard, and my purchase agreement today has 704-M Sports suspension instead. Dealer is clueless, he didnt even know if the 335i demo car they had was with 226 or 704. Anyway, I went ahead and test drove the 335i they had (it probably has 226 since its pre-march), although the car was fitted with 230 alloys (19 inchers) it felt stiff but not crashy. My 335d will come with the 17 inch 188. I m kinda freaked out, dealer says he can delete 704 but I m not sure if thats a good idea with a car that has 580Nm and 286hp, I may actually need it. So, if any of you guys really know the differences between sports and M-sports, I would appreciate your comments. I dont want a car thats uber-stiff or crashy, and wanna make it down my steep driveway without scratching. TIA |

From what I've heard ... and these are rumours I read from someone on a belgian carforum (he got it from his dealer). All 335i/d's are now fitted with the M sports suspension as standard. The difference:
The normal sports suspension is 100% stiff, where the M sports is more comfortable the first 25%. So I reckon the M sports is the best suspension. I have the same fear .. I have ordered my 335d coupé with the M package, and upgraded to 19" wheels. I don't want uber-stiffness. First thing I will do is replace the run-flat tyres with normal tyres (goodyear f1 or bridgestone potenza's). Some people even say: run flat + 17" == normal tyres + 19"

704 M Suspension being standard is definitely not a rumor. It is standard for my 335d order.
I hope the 25% comfortable part is true. I wanted the 18 or 19 inchers but need some comfort also, so forgone the bigger alloys, given that its not certain how the new suspension setup will feel. |

You can always upgrade later ... with those 17" you got a nice set of winter alloys
But I would never delete the sports suspension on your order. Each carmagazine I've read was very happy about the suspension (in combination with 18" + run flats mostly). They all say BMW has struck the golden balance between sportiness and comfort. I can't imagine BMW putting in an even more stiffer suspension as standard.
