i'm going to get the keyboard version but will wait a couple months to see how the market reacts to the BB10 piece.

i hope the camera is better than the last bold with no focus or zoom features...

They really dilated their own anuses infinite-loop-style with that last round of buggy and poorly built handsets/OS. It'll take a lot for them to recover, even if the product turns out to be the best thing since whoever invented cheese.

I'm curious to play around with it though. More competition and "different" approaches to UIs are exactly what the market needs.

They've got a competent OS team over there now so hopefully they release something at least somewhat stable. If these things hit the shelves and aren't ready, they will sink very very fast.

well they havent brought anything to market that mattered in a few years so there certainly isn't any excuse not to have something ready for market.

with that said, it would surprised basically no one if it tanks

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

i also have the latest bold and it's a well known issue that it has neither

It's in the OS and the various menus but not-functional. maybe they fixed it but it was a hardware thing where it was omitted.

Had no idea people still buy blackberry's... I've had several different models over a few year period and they all had the same exact OS! Haven't even looked at a blackberry in 3-4yrs.

Newest bold is the 9930/9900, the camera is a good one but because of the thinness of the phone they went for a "always in focus camera" that works very well (especially for taking photos quickly) and only runs into trouble when taking photos of things very close. The zoom function is the same on any smart phone and is a digital zoom, not mechanical.

None of this matters though because the new blackberry z10 is a spec powerhouse

Ahh you are talking about the 9930/9900.. I didn't like the 9900; it was too big for my likings and went with the 9790.. My phone has been bulletproof eversince I bought it 8 months ago. And btw I checked again the 9790 is the newest being released in Dec.2011 while the 9900 was released in august 2011.. I guess they fixed this problem with the 9790.

The 9790 is the midrange device between the 9900 and the curves, a good workhorse nonetheless. I forgot they called it a bold because 9900 is the flagship.

Frankly, I don't know much about smartphones but I played with the 9900 a little and found it similar to my phone and didn't notice any difference other than the bigass screen.. I really do like how both look and I think I would go for another bold after this drops dead.
