Insurance + Autoglass = BMW Windscreens
Hi,
I need to replace my windscreen & I want a genuine BMW screen as the original one has lasted all these years! I called my insurance & get through to Autoglass! I told them I wanted a genuine screen & she said my car is older than 3 years, so I can't have one! I said why - it's cos of the manufacturers warranty..... so they must be better!? Anyway, I said I got extended warranty & my current screen is the from BMW..... she didn't care! The only way I can get a genuine screen is by paying the difference....... is this true? I'm getting a call tomorrow regarding the extra I'll have to pay. |

I had similar thing when I got a replacement via Adrian Flux.
I had an R32 Golf and wanted a genuine VW screen as that was what was being replaced and I wanted it to stay original with VW etchings (sad I know but it was important to me) The car was 7 years old and they just needed authorisation from the underwriters. Had to wait a few days longer but I got a VW screen in the end and didn't pay anymore.

Yes that's true.
But the glass the use apparently same brand just without the BMW logo. This has been discussed before and the difference is huge!!!

Same thing happened to me, except mine was my drivers window.
They replaced it, was a shitty fit so I complained and got them to come replace it. They said the other one they were going to try was a different brand but made in the same factory so it wouldn't fit either. They then arsed about for about 2 months with me keeping calling for updates and eventually just put a bmw one in which would have saved a lot of hassle and time if they'd done so in the first place.

Just heard back from auto glass...... admiral won't authorise OE glass! It will cost me an extra £310 for it.
Forget that & I can't be arsed calling admiral to complain! It was worth a try! |

From what i've heard if you've got a rain sensor, i'd pay the extra £300.
Have you tried asking if you can get it done at BMW? Last time I spoke to my local BMW bodyshop they reckoned they were cheaper than autoglass. |

I've heard of 2 instances where wipers and/or headlights started playing up after non-OEM glass and BMW said "We wont even look at it under warranty until you put in a proper BMW screen." The sensors look through the window and, to be fair, you can't expect BMW to have to be compatible with anything that someone chooses to fit. |
