16" to 17" conversion

Can I switch from 16" to 17" wheels without any conversion, or speedometer effects? Are the OD of the tires the same?

It all depends on whether you change the profile. If you go up an inch in diameter of the wheel with the same width tyre you need to go to a lower profile on the tyre in order to maintain the same diameter. A 225/50R16 should have the same diameter, or thereabouts, as a 225/45R17 as an example. With the same rolling circumference the speedometer won't be affected.

Here's another noob question ....On a 328 xi with the stock 16 wheels I was hoping to get a set of the 162's. The front and rear offsets are different. I believe all 4 of my wheels have a 34 off set. So should I just buy 4 front wheels that are 18 x 8" with a 34 off set? I didnt want to have issues with the all wheel drive being damaged

Thanks

You can put a staggered OEM 162 set up on you xi.
It's an option from BMW even for the xDrive models.

I didnt have staggered now so in my head I though it may be an issue with rubbing and/or the circumference, but when I used the tire calc. above its only .03 off.....which is nothing really. I thought maybe the OEM cars that come with the staggered setup have the hub set in a tiny bit farther??

No, hub is all the same, but the offset on the rear 18x8.5 staggered wheels is ET37 vs. ET34 in the 18x8 front wheel.

Ok, Well, I may just order all "fronts" 18 x 8's and get all the same size tires to make life easier. Thanks for the response's. Now I have to decide if I want to stay silver or maybe go with a pewter color

hi

i bought mv4 19" alloys used ones with back 255 tyres with 3-4 mm tread and front 225 with 5-6 tyres for my 320d se(e90). I was driving on the motorway as soon as i used to drive faster than 90mph the car was vibrating but the steeering wheel was not and the sterring wheel wasnt going to the left or right. i check the tyre pressure i got 3.0 bar at the the back and 2.2 at the front. Could someone tell me wht it is please. According to the guy who i purchased it off the tyres are balanced.

Thanks

Run flat tire weight.

Having switched back and forth from my stock 161 wheels with the run flat Potenzas, and my Beyern five spokes with Michelin Alpins, I've noticed the stock wheels are much heavier. BMWfan.info shows the 161 rim weighing about 22 pounds. Could the run flat tires be contributing a significant amount of the unsprung weight?

Anyone know of a resource to cross reference other BMW wheels that will fit a 2006 325xi?

I have an opportunity to buy 18" x5 wheels; part # 36116750865

Thanks!

Those are 18x8.5 ET48, so you'll need spacers to bring the offset down.

Anyone have pics of a 2006 325i non-sport running 161s? I'm interested in upgrading to these for a slightly better look versus the 156's wagon wheels I have now.
