Dealer service pricing anecdote

For my new-to-me 08 335i w/32k miles...

Oil change; brake fluid change; new spark plugs; software update; driveability inspection.

Dealer quote: $1,350

Top indy shop near me: $575, including OEM fluids and parts.

Guess where my baby is today?

[and yes, I would normally do all this myself, but I wanted the car worked over by the pros for its first service]

Was your dealer serious? That price is laughable.

Yeah...I really only went in there to see if I could talk them into a free read of my software version. But I did manage to keep a straight face at the service quote before I left. This dealer is reknowned for its outrageous pricing. But...they're always full.

What is the break down they gave you.. How much for the oil change.. how much for the spark plugs?

Could have saved more money by going bosch plugs or NGK plugs..

That's $130 in parts max for consumer but at dealer X 300% = $390.

And 3 hours labor if DIY + 5 addt'l hours at dealer X $115/hr = $920.

About 30 minute oil change, 1.5 hours for spark plugs and 1 hour for brake flush.

That is still only $1,300 total. That dealer is INSANE.

Shit.. Do it all yourself and just pay for the "software upgrade" ask what that is first. It get all done yourself for under 300. Including buy a air powered brake bleeder
