Unhappy BMW = Ricer car?

When did BMW start attracting the drag racing and ricer crowd? For many years BMW owners tended to be car enthusiasts, were well educated, and were usually in their late 20s to mid 40s. They bought BMWs for the overall driving experience and were more concerned with handling than raw speed. Over the years the crowd has become younger, less educated and seems increasingly obsessed with 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. In addition, many younger owners turn their cars into euro-ricers with tons of tacky bling. I attended Bimmerfest 2010 and was startled to see what owners were doing with their cars. I saw at least a dozen cars with crap hanging under their rear bumper including fake testicles and little skeletons. The vintage 2002s and 3.0 CSi cars were dwarfed by lime green, 5,000 watt stereo blasting, gang-banger, pieces of shi*.
Just my $0.02.

You'll still find a lot of modded and classy cars. Some people do take it too far, but there are others that don't. And since when did caring a lot about speed = ricer? Isn't it the opposite? Don't ricers care more about their car looking "mean" and "fast" than their 1/4 mile time?

No brand is immune to ricers. All you can do is just shake your head and continue on your way.

You are correct. I should have said and/or ricer. Good point.

I never felt special owning a BMW or any car for that manner. I don't have any problem dealing with the ugly BMWs as long as they aren't parked in front of my house.

nowadays there are great leasing options for bmws and mercedes making it possible for almost anyone with a decent paying job or nice enough parents to get one
usually older people modify their cars more conservatively while younger people go a little more outrageous with it resulting in the riceyness
oh and btw i like rice

Live and let live. You really have no exclusive right to say what is or isn't a 'correct' BMW.

Unless you are truly so personally offended that someone is reducing your personal intellectual and monetary status in the world that you perceive is at a particular level because of the brand of car you happen to own, then just look the other way.

Hmmm, that was a long sentence.....

p.s., they can park in front of your house. But not on your driveway. lol.

Everyone goes through the rice phase. I did it when I was in my early 20's. The younger crowd will mod anything and everything. Bimmers are not immune. Let them have their fun I say. I am modding my E90 but I'm not going to rice her out. It's part of growing up aiight!

I definitely see what OP is trying to say. I honestly feel that way sometimes myself. But, on this site, most members' "modded" 3 series look really nice, and not "rice." In the end, it's their money and car, and they can do whatever they want with it...whether you and I like it or not.

Part of growing up [for everyone] is going through a rice phase? Really?

I agree. Especially e90post. there are lots of tastefully modded cars here. stuff youve never seen before, and classic modding. the styling of cars these days factors into it as well

Are you being serious right now? It's a good thing you posted on this section of the forum, and not others. Furthermore, good for you that you didn't post on n54 techs. There are hundreds if not thousands of 335 enthusiasts that purchased the vehicle for it's potential. Not to mention extremely educated people like Terry from Burger Motor sports who has accomplished more for this car than anyone, a true pioneer. I don't think level of education correlates to being interested in 0-60 times. I will receive my Ph.D. in less than 2 years and I am interested in 1/4 mile times lol.

I have a JB3 tune and a DCI intake. Your post is pointless and completely ungrounded. You're telling me that people that purchase M3's arn't interested in 1/4 mile times?

+1

Moders all seem to think that THEIR Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements are “tasteful” though...

Is this the “lime green, 5,000 watt stereo blasting, gang-banger, pieces of shi*” you were describing?
