I've got the 116i of the tag range, an Aquaracer, cost about £800 and had it about a year. Love it. Had a Raymond Weil before that which cost £200 and lasted 20 years and still works fine. Before that a Casio.

Interesting thread and interesting views.
Choice: I have a number of watches, some cheap, some less so - the thing that always appealed to me was A) the Look, B) the Engineering and C) the Heritage, in that order - nothing so simple as 'Looking Flash' ...and if anyone else notices and quietly says "nice watch" because they appreciate fine watches, then they understand what makes me tick, if they say "NICE WATCH" then they think I'm a flash git and don't understand me at all. It actually shows me their view on life as much as they think it shows them mine. Timing: My time is important to me but I don't need to be accurate to atomic levels and am willing to forgive a small loss/gain in a mechanical/auto watch because it is a greater engineering achievement than the electronics of a quartz watch. For the same reason, if I had only one choice, I would rather drive a mint air-cooled Porsche 993 than a 997 as I would enjoy the former far more. Investment: In my early twenties (20 years ago) I was lucky enough to work for Rolex for 4 years. Prices for the watch range in those days ran from Oyster £700 - £24,000. Cellini £4,000 - £36,000. I bought my first special watch (a stainless Oyster model) with my third paycheck using my trade discount, all I'll say is in the last twenty years it has risen in value considerably and even if I had not bought 'trade' it would have been worth far more now than when I bought it. FWIW, my brother has a few TAG's and he likes them, though he has had some problems with his Aquaracer (winding crown). At the end of the day, whatever you wear, whatever you drive and why you choose either is up to you - if it's your money and it suits you then fine, no one else has a say. Mark

Well done pal...and nice watch by the way!! As for the guilt it'll pass trust me...I bought my first proper watch last year, a Breitling Navitimer World for my b'day. Well that was last year, since then I've bought a Maurice Lacroix masterpiece lol.

If people are looking for watches at decent prices.... check costco!
They had a panarai there for about £450 less then i could find it anywhere else. They also had Omega's, Rolex etc. Daily wearer for me is a Seamaster (seems to be a common daily!) Special occasion is a Breitling SuperOcean Heritage 46 - gorgeous (but bling!)

yeah been reading about how they stack up to the speedmaster etc..
basically it seems to boil down to a few key points.. 1. longines are much much older than omega 2. back in the 50s/60s longines used to shit on omega 3. 80s/90s not so much, infact omega took over a bit (a lot) 4. both owned by the swatch group.. but the omega has a higher price point as it is marketed as an elite watch the general view seems to be from what im reading that the longines (especially the master collection) are just as good as the top brands, i.e. omega, rolex etc.. but just not as well known any more and in fact slightly hindered by the fact that swatch market them slightly differently.. i will do more investigation at the jeweller tomorrow |

Just as a reminder, if the watch of your choice is in stock, or can be ordered by Ernest Jones, then I can get you a 15% discount off whatever deal you negotiate.....pm me for details.

Also .. for watches at goldsmiths... check out quidco... serious cashback levels - 17%, and you can also do it through interest free on the website itself.
Well, you used to be as my cousin did this, so i assume the interest free still works fine even with cashback.

BGM,
i replied to this thread about watches http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=439425 i looked into getting a watch for at least a year, like you my first idea was a Tag because thats what my oldman has, but after much thought and doing my homework looking at re-sale value and even watches that increase in value over time, i went for one the Omega seamaster planet ocean. absolutly love it, they are so well made compared to many other big name watches i have looked at. just go and try one on and you will see what i mean. |

If you are in the UK the best place to buy a TAG is in SINGAPORE... but why TAG?... why not OMEGA Seamaster (James Bond) ....
