Purchasing extended warranty for used 335i?
Hey guys, I've searched all over and I'm still very confused with how extended warranty works. I'm thinking of purchasing a used 2007 335i with 6x,xxx miles on it and it isn't from a BMW dealer and from what I have read, if I am not the original owner I cannot purchase extended warranty through BMW? Please someone answer this for me or else I don't think I can consider this car and need to get a cpo that doesn't have the color combo I want.

you can purchase the extended warranty if you're not the original owner but you can't do it on a car that's more than 4 years old or has more than 60k (powertrain) miles on it (50 k for gold warranty).

BMW only allows the extended warranty (Gold, Plat, PT) up until 50k miles.
you CAN purchase PT after the fact for 1, 2, or 3 years dependant on the date in service or miles.... also - you can purchase extended maint. from 5 yrs or 60k from orginal in service date. |

Thanks guys. So if I read correctly, I'd only be able to purchase PT since the car is over 60k miles, correct?
As for third party warranties, I did read about Ford ESP on here and a lot of people were saying that it's cheaper and provides more coverage than BMW warranty but when I went onto their site to try and see quotes, BMW was not even there. Anyone know about that or do you guys have any warranty companies you can recommend that are trustworthy and provide some of the same if not better coverage than BMW? Thanks! |

Look very closely at the fine print in the warranty. I find that people come to the shop expecting to get any problem fixed with a warranty, only to be disappointed. In my experience, warranties don't end up paying for themselves.
