Well, the drivers of these types of cars in Vancouver don't appear to be good drivers since I see about 2 supercars in the body shops along the Burrard St. area getting front end damage repaired every week. For the number of those cars around, the % is pretty high being repaired.

Yeah I would think they would need substantial proof of the alleged speeding before impounding?? Not that I don't think they were speeding, probably more weaving in and out to stay close to one another.. which pisses other drivers off.. but damn did they really have to impound if the cops don't have their speeds clocked?

Unless that group was stupid enough to video or document their 'joy ride' , law enforcement has nothing. It doesn't take a law degree to argue that the VERY few people can discern the difference between 180 and 200 or even 160 and 200. If the whole group were to admit to the same excessive speed how would anyone be able to say different? You can't charge all parties with speeding 60 km/h over and then add an additional charge of speeding 100 km/h over. It's one or the other which is why they are able to charge drivers with 'reckless driving' or 'racing'. I don't know about the rest of Canada, but they've passed new legislation here that gives them the power to charge you with 'racing' if you exceed the speed limit by 50 km/h or more even if you're the only vehicle. . .
Anyways some of you should stop judging and being so envious. . . Those 13 young guys will have more than their fair share of trouble especially with as much public envy and outcry as there has been. . . MYOB

Honestly speaking, if any one of us had those vehicles, we would not be driving around obeying the speed limit (I know, blanket statement). This whole story is a little blown out of proportion. |

im sure after the parents make a few calls and donate some $ to the city this will all be forgotton lol, you think people with that kind of dough just let their cars be impounded? If anything they will be lawyered up and ready to put up a fight - there was no measurement of speed so how could they be charged with racing? if anything dangerous driving......

One of the comments on the newscast was to adopt Australia's learner driver system where high performance vehicles are off limits until 25 years old:

im abit of a troll here on the board as im gathering info on a 335 before i purchase for winter but im probably the only one of my friends that dont speed.. i drive an r8 spyder btw and im too anal to cause i dont think its worth it.
a friend of mine out west, where im frequent said these kids are all from hong kong and theyre gonna get bailed out by their powerful parents via embassy and government. i also agree with the fact that if theres no evidence then theres no real grounds for a real criminal charge. how can one prove beyond a reasonable doubt without evidence? |

All it takes is one video and a witness. They may even be able to pull the GPS logs out of one of the ps3's, I mean GT-R's:

So witnesses called the police while driving, eh?...I wonder how much we can trust such sources when they, themselves, are breaking the law by driving and using their phones, no? lol.....
I'm not saying; I'm just saying... |

How true, its funny how these things get overlooked when "high dollar cars" are involved. The cops just wanted to make the news.

IF 2 or more cars did indeed block traffic so that the others could 'race', how much more evidence would they need? Not very much. Since they changed the laws here in Alberta, even a single vehicle exceeding the speed limit by 50+kmph can get you a citation for racing with or without other cars around. Obviously they were all going ATLEAST 50kmph over. They wouldn't need to prove they were going or exceeding 200kmph since going after the 13 for 'street racing'. It sucks but all you guys talking sh!t about their parents donating to whoever and these 13 young adults getting away with it, looks more than likely all 13 will be seized. GG! Time to save up for that pending auction
