Question for 335is owners [Added Sound Clip]
Are you guys experiencing gurgling noise from the left side of the engine bay when your car is sitting on idle? To me the noise sounds abnormal (sounds like a cheap broken down pulley belt). However according to my SA and BMW field engineer, it is normal and the noise us coming from the transmission. Just wanted to make sure that other owners out there do hear the same noise that i'm hearing.
Sound Clip provided: .amr format .mp3 format You can hear it in the sound clip for the first 4 seconds then it goes away comes back again at 0:00:08 Last edited by 335iscp; 11-13-2010 at 03:21 PM.. Reason: Adding Sound Clip |

I haven't heard anything like that... yet.
After servicing my last 335 at one dealer I took it back and told them it rattled and sounded different. They "couldn't hear anything." At home, I found out the dealer forgot to screw in some parts. Moral... Don't trust a dealers or their hearing. Maybe try another dealer. |

No weird engine noises and I'm 2k miles in. I do however have a piece of trim on the driver's side door that has wiggled loose and vibrates loudly when going over a bump!
Just haven't found time to take it in and have them fix it. |

I have recent began to hear a "rattle" from the engine bay, at idle to up to 2000 rpm..not road speed dependent, and the same "sound" at difference RPM's ie.e not egine speed dependent.... sort of sounds like a hear shield loose... seems like it stops when I give it gas and spool up the turbos...

I have 2000 miles and have not heard this noise. My radio echos when I listen to talk radio so I must first turn off Logic 7 if listening to talk.

That DOES sound off. Heat shield rattle maybe?
Neither of my cars sound(ed) like that. I'd personally compare it to another 'is.' What dealer did you goto? |

I've heard the same sound coming from my 335is, kinda annoyed me cause i was sitting at a drive thru window & it could be clearly heard reflecting off the building. That was about a week ago and I don't recall hearing it since. My first thought was that it prob is a part of the Emission system cycling on and off.
This is my first BMW so I could be way off.

I've never heard that sound from inside the car. Am gonna drive it tomorrow, so I'll listen to the engine from outside to double check.

I have that sound in my 335is and I had it in my 335i... Get used to it, the N54 makes all kinds of interesting noises. My 335i went 50,000 miles trouble free (except HPFP) and it made that noise all the time, I could hear it alot in the garage or in a drive thru. Don't worry, you are fine.

I have a 328 and I have the same sound. I hear it mostly from the transmission tunnel area. Might be the throughout bearing or part of the clutch assembly going bad.

maybe your not reving up the engine hard enough...keep those RPM's high and the only noise you'll care to hear is your iS engine screaming for more!

I have it too
I hear that sound as well on my 335is (DCT). I'm wondering if it's DCT specific? I assumed it was normal and haven't bothered calling the dealer. I had an 07 335i and never heard that specific noise.
