Ultimate Racing Exhaust with Custom Work Installed!
I really liked the sound of the UR exhaust, but I was worried about droning issues since I drive so much on the freeway. So, I purchased only the rear section so I could keep my stock resonator.
I initialy wanted to take off the stock resonator and replace it with a Magnaflow one, but once I saw how free flow it is, I thought I would keep it. Also, IMO I think that the 4" tips are to big on this car. Plus I really like the double walled rolled tips, so I had them replaced with the 3.5". Here are some pics:

Here's pics of the inside of the resonator. There was some speculation that there was a resonated X pipe in there, but it's obvious that there is absolutely no crossing within the resonator. The pipe that goes in is the same pipe that comes out.
The first pic is the pipe on the left when looking from the rear of the car, and the second pic is the pipe on the right.

And here is the final product.
BTW, I hate shiny and polished mufflers so I always paint them black to get rid of the bling factor. We spent a lot of time getting the tips exactly right, and then of course everything shifts when I start drving around. I guess I just needed to let everything just settle in and then I'll go back with the corrections. The tips should be completely flush with the bumper, but the pipes expanded so that's why they stick out a bit. Here's the finished product:

Another thing--There is absolutely no drone whatsoever! I guess the sound could be better at higher RPMs, but it's a tradeoff. The next thing that I'll do is delete the secondary cats. I would have done it this time, but this particular guy wouldn't do it for me.

Great pics and review. Any videos?
I'm worried about droning too, and am wondering if the removal of the cats will increase it or is it primarily the deletion of the resonator that creates the dronning? |

Thanks for posting....Interesting....so you are essentially running an "Axle-Back" set up. I'm curious to see what happens if you remove that resonator.

I am keeping my UR exhaust as is...probably changing the tips to slightly smaller ones.

I realy think the droning deals with the resonator and not the cats but I'll find out if anything changes when I delete the cats.

Just to give an update,
I've been talking to numerous engineers here at work and we were talking about flow. Someone brought up in the past that 2 single seperate pipes were better than a connection pipe somewhere in the middle like an X pipe. I believe that this person used an example of flowing liquid, but all engineers agree that a constant flow is different than exhaust pulses. They were saying that if an x pipe is added then the exhaust now has 2 pipes to breath through instead of 1 and since the pulses happen all at different times then there is no "crashing at the X pipe. (makes sense) So, I am going to replace my cats with an X pipe. I also keep reading how an X pipe reduces decibles, but hopefully it doesn't take away too much of my sound right now.

swapping out the cats/resonators for an XPipe won't cut down sound, as I did this and it's louder.
Watch out for drone though, if the UR tail pipe secion isn't baffled, you will have drone. what shop is doing your work in so cal ? |

I work in Norco/Corona and there's a shop here off of Hamner Street. This guy did an unbelievable job and spent over 2 hours and charged me $50. I was completely shocked! I'm going back so he can pack the tips in a little bit more.
