I reported a problem on a loaner X3, just like you describe. So my dealership went ahead and replaced the actuator on my car. Problem on X3 loaner, repair my car. Makes no sense and ever since my driver's door acts up sometimes. Makes a click sound like the mechanism is going to snap into pieces....

actually the guy who told me to do it was a BMW tech and they are supposed to change the fuse to a 20A from a 15A if it blows. known issue.

I had the same procedure done, like ellipsis212...I went to the dealer, told them about the problem - They've told that it is a known issue...The problem has been fixed in less than 10 minutes. A guy removed the 15A fuse and replaced it with a 20A. Tested it and it was fine.
- That's it sir!
- Already? No actuator problem? Thanks! How much will it cost me?
- Nothing! No actuator problem-everything is OK now, sir! Have a pleasant drive!

That was a very nice surprise after reading about replacements of 700 $.
So please, stop spreading silly issues and lies, causing bad feelings to others in the forum.

This happened to me before. Warranty fix for fuse and the dealer nicely replaced all the door actuators too. Two of them were causing trouble cause the lock would "slowly" push up to unlock, and not quite half the time.

skipper400, you should not make assumptions about people spreading lies, just cause you got lucky. and btw, it ain't over yet, cause i did the fuse and a month later the actuator went. I run into people that are "enthusiasts", or just trying to justify blowing their money on an expensive car that breaks, all the time on these forums. If you would have read the posts, you'd know that there are too many of these replaced actuators for it to be "silly issues and lies". the guy that spent $700 to get his POS locks fixed, does not think it was silly. Neither does the NTSB, where this issue has been logged and is getting looked at due to safety concerns (everyone here should be posting on that site, as they are interested in continuing to collect statistics on this, takes 5 minutes, or you can take your chances and pay the $700 BMW lock fee if there never ends up being a recall)

I have looked at A LOT of BMW's with lock/window issues and own 2 right now. I just did the driver actuator on my E90 myself. took about 2 hours (I'll get a post on the forums with pics when i have the chance). What *IS* silly is that the engineers over in munich can't get their act together with the locks and window regulators. my E36 M3 and my buddy's also have lock issues. E46's are notorious for window regulators and the central lock module... i won't even get started with the X5's...

BMW is a company, not a football team, dude. if you wanted a car that was problem free you should have gotten a toyota or a honda. put down the "driving experience" mug and deal with it.

Foca, are you kidding me? If I got my self a BMW, it is because it is supposed to be much more reliable than Hondas and company. I don't like to throw MY money away. If you do, by expecting faults like this on YOUR BMW, that is your right and problem.

As I have been told, no actuators needed to be changed - only switching from 15A to 20A fuse (to be honest, 5A more is surely an extra load on any circuit designed for 15A). At least, this is what they do here. Hopefully, no burned actuators will occur.

My rear driver door won't unlock with the fob or the central control on the dash but it locks with the fob. I replaced fuse 57 with a 20A. No luck. Any ideas besides going to the dealer? Under warranty as of right now. Thanks.

just got this problem here, too... after I paid nearly $1k to get my steering control module fixed... JUST LAST WEEK. BMW NA posted in this forum, right? What is my recourse? I am going to talk to my dealership tomorrow. Since this is under an SIB, is it covered (since I'm not under warranty?) I will be incredibly, incredibly mad if I have to pay any more money having JUST paid a huge chunk for a fix (and I haven't even had the car for a year and a half!)

Changed to a 20A fuse, so far so good. Tested it 10x, and keeping fingers crossed.

i had that problem a little while ago..the actuators in our doors go bad, thankfully it was just a fuse that blew..

Just because the fuse alone worked for you doesn't mean the actuators aren't a problem with the car.

My case:
1. Door locks didn't respond
2. Dealer checked diagnostics and found a blown fuse error
3. Replaced #57 from 15A to 20A
4. All locks work except for the front passenger side, which would lock but not unlock
5. 3 hours pass, drivers door lock doesn't even budge. I can only lock it from manual key through the outside.
6. Both actuators are being replaced today.

Blowing a fuse isn't normal - I bet you'll have problems down the road.

Haha - I meant people who aren't as lucky as you to simply require changing a fuse. Others needed to spend hundreds of dollars to get their doors to lock.

To assume I meant social status? Obvious you have some insecurities. Don't take things so personally - it's a forum.

Paying for a BMW doesn't mean everything will be perfect. Oh yeah, DEFINITELY glad we don't live in the same country.

this has become quite petty. the big negative about forums, is you get people that speak without having enough knowledge, or simply based on their own isolated experience.

i'm sure we could all do better to prevent misinformation from spreading. The best thing to do is speak on your personal experience and keep in mind that there are people that know more and/or have more experience than you.

The fuse no.57 from a 15amp to a 20amp is ......WORK....... All locks work again and no need manual key.

This just happened to my car. Got the wrong fuse so I'll try again tomorrow and hope this works. Weird thing is that it reset my mirrors and radio presets.

mine fluctuate, my passenger door works some times, other times it doesn't. same with the drivers door. talked to BMW and they said for the E90s there is undated set of actuators available. i believe 1 cost about $280 (thats came with the car) and all 4 cost $340 and those are the updated version (my numbers arnt perfect since i got the quote several weeks ago, but its ball park from what i can remember) but buying the new set will obviously cost a lot more for labor and programing. and i know its ridiculous that the prices are so close even when you get 1 vs. 4.

im going to get them all replaced just so i dont have to worry about it. its embracing having to open the door from the inside for passengers.
