Bimmer Performance Center … near Capital and 540.
Euro Motors of NC … just off Capital inside the Belt Line. Talk to Mike. Black Forest Industries (BFI) … on Chatham Rd near the Cary/Raleigh line and WakeMed Soccer Park. Import Motor Works in Cary off of Cary Parkway. My knowledge of Durham shops is lacking. But if you're in the Raleigh/Cary/Wake Forest area these guys have you covered. I wouldn't hesitate to go to any of them.

Shade Tree is great, too. Though I don't know how they are with the newer BMWs. I haven't been by their shop in years because it's no where close to me. if the younger guy is still there (Steven, maybe?), I'd bet he'd be up on the newer cars.
I have a friend who takes his e39 540i wagon there all of the time. The one big knock from what I remember is that it's difficult to schedule an appointment. If nothing else, take a drive out there. I remember them being very willing to talk to anyone who walked in the door. And it's a nice country drive (or used to be). They have a very nice stable of older BMWs on the farm.

Thanks for the info! Long story but I'm in Charlotte and the car is in Raleigh, wish I could stop by and check them out. Shade tree guy seems nice and certainly knowledgeable, but as you mentioned, seems like they do more with older models. Going to call bimmer performance tomorrow. Work needed isn't that complicated but would feel better knowing a place has more experience with our platform. Thanks again, been a huge help!!

+1 for Import Motor Werks in Cary/Apex. Our E90 M3 was taken there and our E46 is as well.
