Going from 16's to 18's?

I've heard mixed reviews on weather this is a good idea.

I have a 09' 328i XDrive with stock 16's.

Any advice would be appreciated

What is your concern in regards to going from 16 to 18? I wouldn't worry at all if you're just going to an 18". If anything, cornering will probably be better due to the fact of a smaller sidewall (less play). You might lose a little bit of acceleration due to added rotational mass, but this will be very negligible just as long as you purchase quality wheels that are weight conscious.

What were the mixed reviews you've been hearing? We have done hundreds of 18 and even 19" sets for Xi guys and they have been extremely happy with the results.

My dealer told me going more then one inch larger(he said he wouldn't recommend even going up 1 in) could cause serious problems for the AWD system and said if it does its not covered by warranty. Then again our dealer is notorious for given bad info but there the only dealer in WV so we kinda have to deal with them.

I'm glad to here that 18 and even 19(wow) are ok. I've been wanting to put new wheels on the car since I got it and now its about time for new tires I'm might just have to.

That makes absolutely no sense, given the fact that you can buy an XI from the dealership with OEM 18" wheels....Go back to the dealership and get on the BMW website and customize an XI with 18" wheels and see what they have to say about that...

Actually, better yet, add the 19" inch OEM option on the BMW site and see what they say.

" So I cant even up go 1" or it will void warranty, yet I can get it built from BMW with a wheel 3" larger...."

Stupid Stealership.

Yea thats actually almost exactly what I said. However, they said that the cars computer come pre calibrated for the stock wheel size and that its meant to stay that size. They even had stories of people who went up in size and messed there car up. They've had me iffy on weather to change the wheels but I think I'm going after hearing you'll have done so with success.

Lol, goodness...where do these dealerships get their info from...

Yeah, id say go ahead. There are countless people with the X-drive system who have upgraded wheels on the forums.

Yea who knows. Our dealership is terrible. The last time I went in it took 4 1/2 hours to get a wheel alignment and then once it did come out it had a scratch on the fender. I told them I was positive that there was no such scratch when I brought it and they had marked that there was a scratch on the back but offered me free touch up paint. Let just say I've considered selling my car because of how bad the dealership is.

My 09 323 had the same 282's you have on your 328. I put on 18" 162's on my car with NP and the dealership was fine with the upgrade. And those 282's are dam ugly.

Yea you don't have to tell me I've wanted to swap them since I got the car. I just checked out those VMR's wheels and really liked them. Looks like I'm finally going to get some new wheels.

There are a handful of Xi drivers on this board running 18's and 19's even in staggered fitments without any reported differential problems. As long as you run the proper tire sizes you should not have any kind of issues. Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

Upgrading your wheels from 16" to 18" will not have a negative impact on your AWD system. I did it and my dealer loves my car

I would say there are much more than a handful of us xi owners that have upsized to 18s and 19s on e90post.

The dealer is ignorant. The overall diameter (wheel and tire) remains unchanged so how can changing the wheel size affect the AWD system. That must be one sensitive system. It simply makes no sense.
