Can I Run This Combo - GARY PLEASE READ TOO
Can I run OE 225/40-18 on the front, and 265/35-18 in the rear? The tires are Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec.
Frankly I think it is inexcusable that there are NO 255/35-18 Z1 Star Specs available until mid-August. I am somewhat angry...Less than 2,000 miles ago I commit to this tire for the auto-x season. I got a puncture in the right rear too close to the sidewall for a safe patch. So now I am either sidelined for the season or have to go buy all new tires. So now the question is can I run the 265 in the rear instead of the 255? Will it cause any problems? Thanks.

You could if you really want to but it's going to look funny IMO. Your rear tires will stick out quite a bit pass the rims. I would imagine that handling will be affected.

Unfortunately 265/35R18 needs a min 9" width. OE rears are 8.5", sorry.

Hey 2e9x's, you will be okay with 265 on a 8.5 rim width. I have 265's in the back of my M3 on 8.5 rims in the rear. I does work and it does NOT look funny at all. I track my M3 all the time and the handling is alot more aggressive grip wise in the back with the extra wide meat. The tires are completely flush to the rims. Let me know if you need more help.

Thank you for the replies. I went to the Tirerack web site and looked at the specs for this tire. Dunlop requires at a minimum a 9" wheel for the 265/35-18 so I am out of luck.

Yup, which is what Gary's said. If you look at the stock wheels which are 8.5" in the back with 255, there is already some rim protection for them (i.e. a little portion of the tires is already sticking out pass the wheels) so with 265 they will stick out even further and not flush at all. Like I said, they will work if you really want to run them that way but there really is no point unless you track your car often.
