DP install diy question with steering rack
When installing dp's do you guys recommend only unbolting the passenger side bolt of the steering rack and moving it up an inch or unbolting bolts to the steering rack and yanking the whole thing down?
DIY on the forum only moves it up and inch @ step 6 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104333 Mach schnell dp video does both but only pulls the rack up an inch @ 3:35 AR install dp video does both and yanks down the steering rack @ 9:00 The reason why I ask is because I had my entire steering rack replaced due to rack and pinion misalignment and I'm not sure if it's because I pulled the steering rack down for dp install or if it was from something else. Just want to clarify before putting dp's back in this weekend.

I only removed the passsenger side and losened the drivers side. Then swung it out about an inch. Was really only necessary so you can remove the small heat shield.

Have car on jack stands, remove both bolts hex on one end and 16mm on other...this will alow you to pull the steering rack completely down....with the where's in the air you can pull it down much farther.
I will give you pics when I get home.

if you do both sides you can move it completely out of the way (8-10"). Then unbolt 1st bolt on heat shield and swing it out of the way. I can put both arms up to my shoulders in the hole it creates lol!! Makes the job way to easy lol!

Yea that's what I did the first time, but had rack and pinion issues after the install (maybe coincidence) so I am a bit worried. Thanks for the quick responses guys, excellent community.

it does not change anything (no adjustment) just a fixed location.
