Who can design/machine caliper brackets?

If you think you know how to do this or somebody who might please let me know or if you just want in on the project for a custom brake kit let me know, having some help would be great.

I've done a lot of the leg work to find some appropriate setups, now it's just about making them fit.

What specifically are you looking for as far as a bracket goes?

Im a fabricator. And any sort of bracket would be simple.

Caliper brackets aren't as simple as a bracket that you're probably thinking of.
I thought I would need a new one when the moron that did the brakes for the previous owner used no anti seize and I stripped out all the threads in my bracket for the caliper carrier bolts.
Anyways it's a complex shape and bmw casts them. I guess you could mill out a block to make them though.

There is this stuff called quick steel you can get. Definitely use that brand.

Pack the holes with it and screw the bolt into it lightly
After roughly 3 to 4 min. Carefully
screw the bolt out. The threads will harden as hard as the steel.

Not always the best fix but it should work.

Just to hold ya until you figure out what you are gonna do.

Just an idea. And ya. If its more of a cast then i prob wouldnt be able to do it.

Lemme know if ya got any other ideas

emachineshop? Or just find a local CNC shop. Most of them are willing to take one off jobs.

Yeah that problem was resolved a year or so ago. I just drilled and tapped the bracket for a larger diameter bolt and then machined a new bolt that functions identically to the old one but has the same larger thread size.

A new bracket isnt more than $150 though. but i think he just wants to experiment or something.

Basically looking into retrofitting various calipers for better performance or better looks. Either a new caliper onto the OEM rotors, or a new caliper using larger BMW off the shelf rotors.
There's a whole bunch of options that fit decently with the OEM brake bias, all that's really left to do is machine up a bracket for any of them.

They want me to purchase a hub and rotor for them to use during the fabrication of the caliper bracket, it's just too costly paying them the hourly rate for a one-off. It would work out a lot better if someone who actually had the car and was interested in the project as well would be interested in the project

I'll just say that the calipers from Porsche Cayenne S will be a good match

Rather than do that a Helicoil or Timesert is a much more reassuring repair. I don't like taking chances with brakes....

Have you called VAC? Maybe ECS? JHM?

Also, not to put the cart before the horse, but please make sure there are a plethora of street and track pad options out there for the caliper you choose. Plus, being able to fit under 18" wheels would be total win.

I like the Brembo 17z calipers from the Touareg V6. 4 Piston, so you don't have to mess around with master cylinder issues. Piston sizes are 36/40mm. Plus, they are ~$300/pair!

The 17z calipers are 6-piston and give too much front bias + too large for the master cylinder. The 4-piston caliper from touareg isn't the 17z, but I know which caliper you are referring to. It's just a bit too ugly for me LOL. I have a list with a wholeeee bunch of calipers, it all comes down to finding one that's easy to make a bracket for.

The 18z is cheap and fits, but it requires some machining of the caliper.

GT3 calipers work and fit very nice, but the cost is prohibitive.

Re: 18z - Hard to say no to painted, loaded, reman caliper pairs for $500 lol

Have you tried the actual brembo 355mm brackets for their 335i kit? I gotta believe economies of scale still apply to brakes, and there are so many Brembo mounting options...

By machining do you mean to mount it, or to give clearance?

Also, have you looked into the Centric semi-loaded reman gt3 calipers?

Sorry for all the questions. Now that I've got my suspension and tires set up, brakes are next on the list. Running Endless street/track pads is getting expensive. I'd love to be able to swap pads quickly without having to pull the whole caliper!
