Hey guys, I'm about 3800 miles away from needing new rear brakes. My question is do I have to replace the rotors? I beleive they were replaced last the brakes were done about 30k miles ago. It is required every time? Thanks!

I don't think you need to replace them just resurface them.

This is a debatable topic, I would say they should be good if you resurface them. You can get a micrometer or calipers and check the rotor thickness compared to the minimum rotor thickness stamped on the rotor

You have plenty of time depending on how much drive and whether it’s an AT or MT. My onboard computer displayed ~1600 miles before Christmas and I went on a ski trip in upstate New York, daily drove since and just got mine replaced ~2 weeks ago. I had my rear pads, rotors and sensors replaced at the stealership for ~$450. I purchased the car @ 51K and for them replaced @ 83K.

That's weird. Each day when I turn the car on the miles drop by 100. So I'm already down to 3500 from the above mentioned 3800.

ok jus hit the 1000 mark. So all what is needed to replace the rear brakes? what does this normally run at the dealership? Would it cheaper at an indy shop? What brake pads/ rotors would you all suggest?

After reading through several brake threads recently, this forum has repeatedly recommended OEM blank rotors and either stock pads or hawk HPS's for a daily driven non-tracked car.

As a visual check: if there is a significant lip on the rotors, you will need to replace them. BTW, you will need a micrometer as a caliper won't work because of the lip.

OEM rotors are good if you dont mind the cost, zimmerman is also popular.

For pads if you want low dust than akebono euro cermaic hands down

What about cooling properties. I daily my car but hell I love to let loss in the mts with it. I have notice my brakes over heating and not nearly as effective as they are normal driving. Will slotted help with cooling or ceramic? Or do I need to invest into a big brake kit?

not as good as OEM, but still more than enough bite for what I need, you get used to it after a few days
