DIY: Setup BMW Standard Tools 2.12 on Windows XP > 10

Many have asked for the easy way to install BMW Std Tools, and I have developed a proven method that can be done in less than 15 min depending on the processing power of your machine.

The only requirement for this install is Windows XP through Windows 10, 32 or 64 bit version and a working KDCAN cable. Instead of writing a lengthy detail in this post, I generated the instructions that's included in link below.

NOTE:
For everyone who's having issues setting the default folders, it is because some of the downloads excludes "empty" folders. Therefore, make sure your folder structure on the C drive are as follows (if you're missing a particular folder, create an empty one):

Is it possible to get chasis e90 DATEN files in RAR parts chunks? Its a 4.5GB file and I having problems downloading it.
I was able to download all other files with no probs.

For the NCSExper_64 and EDIABAS folder, when I try to select them in BMW coding tool I am getting an error saying "not a valid NCSEXPER_64 (or EDIABAS) folder"

Any ideas? I have both the folders in the root C: drive and they are both extracted.

I'm on Win 10 64bit

EDIT:

For some reason it looks like not all the files are downloading when I download them. The ECU folder does not download from the EDIABAS folder for example.

EDIT 2: I figured it out I think. Mega wasn't downloading empty sub folders. For that reason coding tool was viewing the EDIABAS NCSEXPER and EC-APPS/NFS folders as invalid since those were all missing empty folders.

Compared what was on Mega to what I had and created any of the empty folders and it looks like it worked.

If you copied over my folders, everything is in English.

Is anyone getting trouble on Windows 10 pro 64bit?

Currently at step#16 trying to select default folders for NCSExpert.. etc. Shows error "C:\NCSEXPERT is not a valid NCSEXPER folder." says the same for the others as well.

It's because Mega won't download an empty folder. I'll have it fixed tonight and post an update.

Link is fixed and shouldn't contain empty folders, so you should get a complete download.

One question I have is that once I imported the DATENs, can I delete the original DATEN folder? It looks like the DATENs are sucked into C:\EC-APPS\NFS\DATA?

You can delete the chassis folder you downloaded that contains the DATENs, but you obviously can't delete the Daten folder under NCSEXPER.

Hey whats up guys, I have a question about the 3 folders the guide says to delete and then copy them over again. are we supposed to delete or merge them with the other folders? i keep getting errors when i delete them trying to proced with step 17. any help is appreciated, thank you

You shouldn't have any problems deleting them if you have administrator privileges. Just select and delete.

Hi, I've reinstalled this a few times and followed the instructions and added the missing files to the 3 folders. Using only e89 daten and I keep getting an error after clicking the Cas module. I took a picture of it but don't know how to upload it here

More than likely your cable is bad. What color is the PC board, and where did you get it from?
