Arrow Regrets? No!

I've had my 325i now for 4,100 miles and 8 weeks. It's plenty fast, and I don't know why I would need anything faster. The only problem is with the mileage... Even with auto, I'm only getting about 21 composite, and I'm no Leadfoot Louie. It only improved to 21.7 MPG after a 400-mile road trip from Houston to the Austin area and back. If I'm getting this kind of mediocre mileage on a 325, I don't want to find out what a 330 would be getting. On second thought, I guess I would want to know!?

I'm hitting 24.2 mpg with my stick shift

no regrets

I give this topic 10 minutes to turn into the nice argument that we've had 18 times

My 330i auto - 24.5 in mixed driving, 28.5 on highway averaging 65mph. I'd expect better than 21.7 unless it's all heavy traffic

Considering I did not try out the 330i I cannot compare the 2.
I had the e46 323i until I traded it in for my 325.

Well, what a MASSIVE difference 6 1/2 years make!

Everything about my new car screams total quality. The new engine, the 6 speed steptronic the chassis EVERYTHING.

There is a massive MINIMUM $20,000 cost DIFFERENCE here in Australia between the 325 and 330. Then the Government steps in AGAIN and takes MORE!!!

Not worth the difference. The 325 is PERFECT for me. And the 2.5 litre engine is a GEM.

I was regretful at first of not buying a 330.. But i honestly couldnt afford it. So why suffer in debt and saving every penny to make each monthly payment..

But once my 325 is paid off, i intend to sell/trade it, that way ill be able to put even more money down for a 330 or MAYBE an M3 (in my dreams), and my payments would still be about the same. I didnt get a high resale value for the jetta, so it was more out of pocket money for me.

But now that ive had my 325 for over a month, and 1500 miles... i love it even more. It feels faster now and its great 1st bmw

I am not yet an official owner, but I am planning on getting the 330i. For ED, the difference only comes out to be $4,000 over the 325i out of the door (with all the options I so desire). That $4k gets broken down via: Logic7 sound over stock (still questionable as to how much more quality it is over the stock system...even in the audio forum people are rather quiet over this issue ), 18" wheels over 17" (and the 18s look prettier than the 17s IMO), 40 more horses, and 35 more lb-ft of torque...the most impressive and compelling reason for me to get the 330.

It's not that I really love the extra power, but that I truly abhor any such lack of power. I don't like little lags on inclines with other passengers/luggage in the car (I drive my girlfriend around a lot and although she's pretty light, I can feel her presence on the gas pedal going from stops or going up inclines). I don't like to hear the engine sound like it's struggling.

So for 4k? Sure, why not - that's just a 10% price increase for 20% increase in power on top of other goodies like the Logic7 and 18" wheels. Then there's the small stuff like the chrome detailing around the windows that most don't seem to like, especially on darker colors.

Totally happy w/ the 325. Has plenty of power, milage has continued to get better, after 3000mi 30 hwy. 26-27 city. The ride is exciting and smooth, could not ask for a more fun drive. Leather makes it very nice. Never wanted the stiffer ride, so absoluty no second thoughts.

This kind of post is pointless. Most people, even if they did have regrets(not that they should), wouldn't admit it since there are more than a few 330i owners here that would jump all over that. Sad but true. This thread and any like it relating to 325i vs 330i just gets people emotions going and flame wars start.

the 330 has the same epa rating as the 325 so mileage should be similar.

Well, the point was to help those who may be struggling with the decision of which to choose -- myself included.

I loved the 325i I test drove... I am still trying to decide if the extra power and options are worth the extra expense -- to me.

I am not trying to start a whole thing here, I just want to be very careful in my decision.

The ED does help, although you are guaranteed to spend the savings on the trip -- but you get an awesome trip.

Thanks to all the positve reviews so far.

I said it before, I'll say it again...it's a great car. I could have gotten a watered-down 330i for the same price I paid for the 325i ($39,000), but then again, my car is more or less fully loaded, so I have no complaints. I bought the car of my dreams, so to speak, and couldn't be happier...well, yes I could. The day I have the thing completely paid off is when I'll probably be much happier

325 has plenty of power for us. Not sure whether suspension/wheels are big enough deal to worry about, that's more of a personal opinion. Don't think I would like changing tires every (10,000?) on the sports package. The stock runflats on the 325 I have listed as 300 treadwear.
Wife has been getting just under 20. Somehow as soon as I get in the mileage goes up. I drive it fast, but accelerate differently than she. I'm teaching her to swap over to DS, it gets better mileage with the higher average revs.

The 330 just wasn't financially do-able for me, so no regrets what-so-ever! I'm damn chuffed to be driving a brand new BMW straight 6 anyhows and 218bhp is a big step up from the 118bhp on my old e46 318 4 cylinder!

330

Probably better resale value for 330!!

so why not. I know I will be happier sitting in a 330 than a 325.
the difference is probably enough to pay for a nice meal once a month.

some people think it is worth it , some don't.

In Canada, 330 has sunroof, chrome trim/grill, adaptive headlight, auto seat, 18 wheel for sp, more power and a 330 label on the car.
