Weird, any luck in getting the tire manufacturer to admit the defect? Did it happen to one specific brand? And I'm pretty sure if I would swap the tires to the rear, there would be no weird wear issues.

I have some POS Maxxis tires, which were on the car when I got it, so doubt anything will happen. Most likely will use them up, get another brand of tires and then will check again.

so is this issue caused by a wrong Toe set up? I'm now having this issue on my 2011 328i E92 M sport with about 80k miles. very annoying.

I think it can be caused by multiple issues. I have the symptoms of a bad strut and my tire is wearing bad on the inside. Alignment, bushings and strut are what i have gathered could be the cause. I don't believe it has to do with tire brand because many different brand tires are experiencing this.
