Cardiff - Night out advice

I'm heading to Cardiff for a stag night! Anyone got any advice an where is good eat/drink/etc...?

It's not going to be a particularly bawdy affair, so if anyone knows of any nice places not full of other stag & hen parties then let me know

Thanks

Caroline Street is the place for chips, kebabs and more chips.

I've not been out in Cardiff for a few years, but this place used to be great:

http://le-monde.co.uk/

It may have gone downhill slightly as it is not that highly rated on trip advisor. But I've had a few brilliant meals there. You choose your food (seafood is a speciality) from a massive glass deli-counter. The kitchen is open and there used to be a great atmosphere.

Not been out there for a while, but when I did the advice from the locals was to avoid Fri/Sat - they said all the weekly paid farm labouers came down from the hills and pissed their wages against the walls. It can get a bit messy!

I used to go out during the week - as a student city it was busy every night and full of eye candy!

All of the above advice is pretty true!!

If you are looking to eat in the city centre while indulging in a few beers etc then Le Monde is still the default choice to be honest. If you are going to be a large party then it would be a good idea to ring in advance (ask for Simon).

Otherwise there are plenty of average places that will serve you average food fairly quickly.

I'm afraid I'm too old to know much about the current club scene But Mill Lane has a variety of options and is on your doorstep if you choose Le Monde.

Chip Pan Ally (never since such a mess at about 4 in the morning)
Use to do Cardiff a couple of times most years & Mill Lane, St Mary's Street was where the best Clubs & life was went back last year although it was still quite busy nothing like years ago and in places quite run down heard that the Bay area is the better place now also noticed how prices have shot up since it became a lot more popular.

Problem with "The Bay" is its likely to be further away from your hotel....but its fair to say that the bars and restaurants down there are more consistent....not sure on Clubbing options to be honest...think you'd have to go back to the centre for that....

El Puerto's is a good option for food, along same lines as Le Monde but better (was opened by previous owner of Le Monde after he sold out), but its down by the Bay Barrage so isn't very convenient for everything else...

Theres obviously plenty of other restaurants in and around the city but I'm assuming the OP wants somewhere convenient to the rest of the nightlife...

Think there's quite a few hotels in the Bay area now as well

St Davids is very nice but expensive for your average stag party...but maybe they're not average....

Future inns is a bit inaccesible on foot imo...

As usual, all comes down to budget really.....

Thanks for all the info, some useful tips there I think.

Not going on a fri or sat is not really an option as we're there on Friday & sat!

It looks like the service at Le Monde has gone downhill of late according to trip advisor. Don't want to be stuck in a restaurant for hours. Always a shame when somewhere goes downhill...

There are more people on the Sat than the Fri, and the Sat people are apparently more budget-conscious - so maybe head down to the bay on friday for some nice grub & bars as a warm up, then join the melee in the centre on Sat?

Waste of time or not? Looks like it should be easy enough to get £5 back?

Dining experience at Le Monde can vary. However it still remains the default choice for people who want a decent steak or fish, cooked fresh (not just a microwave meal), in the city centre. It can get very busy which adds to atmosphere, but can make service poor. They do at least have large tables which can accommodate a big group.

A smaller party will make the logistics of the Bay easier....plenty of choice for both food and drink there, Woods Brasserie is probably the stand out for food...

Interesting looking at Trip Advisor rec's for Cardiff Restaurants! Bellinis I'd agree with, but didn't see any others I'd recommend in the top 20!!!

Tiger Tiger nightclub is good, very varied and full of clunge. Hilton hotel is ideally situated and very reasonable.
