Tap into the CAS module constant 12V source. The V2 Wheel needs power even with the car off per the BMW Instructions, unlike the V1 Wheel.

I installed a PSW v1 on an E92 335i. These errors are displayed:

Any advice?

The only part I was unsure of was swapping the pins into connector A7. The BMW instructions say Green/Brown and Brown/Green, but the 2 wires are both Yellow/Brown and Brown/Yellow. I tried it one way and the horn didn't work, so I swapped them and then everything was functional.
I tapped into the 12v cig lighter power, but that wouldn't throw these codes would it?

Hi Guys,

Can someone point me to EXACTLY what wheel was used in this DIY? I am seeing most Performance wheels, WITHOUT the M logo, but this one has it?

Also, would this work perfectly with a 328 or a 335, automatic with perhaps the paddle shifters or is this only for the M3? Thanks!

This wheel DIY is about the Electronic Performance Wheel (Version 1).
The "M" logo is just trim that many people do not use.
No the wheel does not need coding.
You will, however, most likely need to recalibrate the steering angle sensor.

Question

Thanks for the great write up and sorry for the thread bump, but per the installation manual, the Performance steering wheel version II requires coding if you do not have a sports steering wheel installed, I'm confused as to what exactly is a "sports steering wheel".

Does my standard E90 M3 (2008) have a sports steering wheel or not (it's the M wheel with the four sets of buttons on either side).

Tools:

1. Not very big Flathead Screwdriver
2. 16mm or 5/8 socket with wrench and extensions
3. T15 torx socket ( i think it is T15 but I might be wrong)
4. Very small flathead screwdriver
5. 10mm socket

This DIY is for you just to look/read and get an idea on how it can be done. I am not encouraging you to do this installation. I will not be responsible for anything that might happen to you, your vehicle, or anybody who might be helping you, or anything else.

If you are local ( Bay Area ) I can install it on your car for a $90+ Grande Vanilla Late

Before you start taking everything apart you need to read PDF Instructions in the Post#3 at the bottom and get familiar with it. Make sure you understand what goes where. After you did that, I would recommend to label supplied BMW harness with A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,A6, and A7 tags. It will be easier to figure out what goes where.

1. Disconnect your Battery and make sure your (-) Negative terminal will not be touching battery

2. Remove lower plastic panels on both sides (passenger/driver). I just have picture of the passenger side

Driver side

3. Read PDF instruction and unplug Blue connector

4. Reales the side tabs and pop off the Black/Grey connector that is inside the Blue one.

5. Read PDF installation and remove Blue/Red wire from Pin1 and Red from Pin2. Insert A3 into Pin1 and A4 into Pin2. Now install wires that you removed from Pin1 and Pin2 into Connector E

Pulling out wires from Pin1 and Pin2

Connector E

Wires from Pin1 and Pin2 inserted into Connector E

Wires A3 and A4 inserted into big Black connector into Pin1 and Pin2 and Connector E connecter to A5

6. Now you can install Control Module B and connect A6 to the module

Hi doba, if you are stilling willing to help out fellow Bay area forum member installing it for $90 & Grande hot drink of your choice .... I am thinking about buying the performance steering for my 2012 135i. Wait to hear from you... thanks much !

Good day!
My e90 330i just built this BP Ele.Steering Wheel, everything is going well, ONLY one tiny issue...No Oil Temp Show Up?
Need Coding? Or Re-Connected Battery?(We did not do disconnect Battery in this time.)
I just found two versions of Instruction of installation from BMW AG, I used the 2008 version.

btw, does anyone be able to entre the Basic Setting Mode?I have been trying several times, it seems NOT working at all, perhaps, my wheel is still under Diesel Mode~~~
Many thanks!

Any Suggestion? Many thanks!

Tony

Hey boys. Seems like I'm missing the white 12 pin connector on my harness for A7. Is there a way to get this from BMW? Can I use the black one and put the pins from the harness in it?

Haven't started the install yet.

Anyone with the wheel that can confirm that you can turn of the rev. led's if you want. But keep the display on?
And that the rev led's and display is possible to dim? And if so, does it dim with the same knob that the other instruments?

I just got my M Performance Steering wheel installed, love it.

Question for other owners: Anyway to save preferences to the wheel itself? Each time I turn the car on, it reverts back to Celcius instead of Farenheit, etc. Doesnt remember my preferred shift light speed, etc.

Is this how the wheel is supposed to function or is there some way to permanently save settings?

Hey guys - need help.

I swapped my sport steering wheel to the performance electronic V1 steering wheel (with harness and proper coil spring). Followed the instructions to the letter. Multiple times double-checked the wiring and all the connections - everything seems correct. Then reconnected the battery and started the car - the airbag and seatbelt signs are on.
Also steering wheel controls do not work either, nor the electronic indicators.

Any help? Thanks.

Solved. The band inside the coil spring was ripped from the connector. Had to get a new coil spring cartridge. Now it works!

I just did this install and despite from one royal pain in the ass due to a broken pin from the car's clockspring side, it's VERY straightforward! I was done the initial install in just under two hours, but then spent the next six hours tracing the wiring issue and creating one wire/pin from scratch.

Anyways, my DSC/ABS faults are on. This is usually due to a faulty steering angle sensor. Any idea why this triggered?

edit: Figured it out. Before installing the new clockspring, you have to make sure the arrow lines up on the car's cartridge. This should be added to the instructions as it is absolutely crucial to lining up the steering angle sensor with the new clock spring.

Would've saved me almost 4 hours of frustration trying to figure out why the hell my DSC/steering angle wouldn't calibrate, and then my SRS warnings started coming on again.
