35 watts per channel isn't much.

35 watts per channel isn't much.
How do they get 130 out of bridging two channels?
The Helix equivelent gets 55 watts per channel still not
a lot.

That's RMS rating, or ~70W max at 4ohms/~130W max at 2 ohms.

That is about twice the MS-8 power output.

Why would they state it in different specs.

Why would they state it in different specs.
Is it specmanship and marketing or am I just not
reading carefully?
Looks like they are trying to do the ms-8 thing.
This unit runs over 1k as does the Helix equvilent
I guess but 9 channels of eq is good for the sub guys.
Is this as good a processor as there or others standalone s?
So are a separate amp and processor still the best way to go?
And how much do you gain from a processor if you have good
speakers/amps to help bridge the mid range hole.
A comparison discussion between this the Helix and the mocsoni 120.4 dsp would be interesting.
I wonder if they are using Head Unit chips in these to?

AFAIK, RMS rating has been used for most of the published aftermarket specs since at least 10 years ago.

Both processor/amp pdf manuals are in the Web and both show RMS ratings for 2- and 4ohms.

To me, as long as they are more reliable than the MS-8 then they will be great as a direct HiFi OEM amp replacement.

I just met an installer who specializes in our cars and said adding this to an otherwise stock hi-fi system will make a world of difference. Wondering whether at $1300 installed it's a worthy alternative to a level 1 setup from musicar northwest

Are you getting any new speakers?

Are you getting any new speakers?
Half the problem with these systems is
the sucky speakers. It's bound to sound better.
I would be asking him how he intends to use all
8 channels in a Hi Fi system.

Well the HiFi tweeters are utter crap so the end result will definitely be affected by that. If I was to install such a fine piece of technology I would make sure that the speakers are of decent quality to have a shot at a decent outcome.

Are they tuning the car for you as well? Almost sounds like they have some pre-set files to use with your car. I would insist that they fine tune it until you absolutely love it before giving them the go-ahead.

I think this would work well with the MB Quart QM200.3 system ($500 at BB). I would NOT install this with OEM front speakers, that would be a waste.

AFAIK it means As Far As I Know.

No it seems true RMS, but I think they are still fudging the numbers a little bit. A 30 amp fuse is a bit tiny for 520 true RMS watts.

Thanks, guys - this is sound (ha) advice. I wanted to spend less than $1500, so the installer suggested installing the Audison without doing anything to the speakers, and for him to tune the setup. He's undergone some sort of training with the Audison and is really impressed by it. But you're right, this might be silly using the OEM speakers. Maybe the money is better spent on the pacificar northwest setup.
