A little bit of both. I don't drive to work, I use the tube and walk. So the 335D is purely an evening and weekend toy. It will be a stop gap for me as I want the E92 M3 in 2 years. The reasons I got the 335D are I just have to experience for myself what the fuss is all about these mega diesels and also tuning this car will give me the a good set of baseline experience and knowledge on the E92 to rip my M3 apart the day I get it ....... confidently .......

Good car but TBH if you really like driving hard, get a CSL and swap the bucket seats for something more comfortable like the alcantara/cloth M-Sport seats from a 330ci. The CSL is a much sharper tool. Unless you want a manual box.

It is. Alternatively, look at an E46 M3 with Cinnamon interior, exactly the same shade.

Looking at these pics and even in the brochure I would never consider going saddle brown leather, but I saw it for the first time in the flesh yesterday and it really does look amazing. Thats a great car you have.

I noticed from your post that you have used soundlinx products to install your Alpine HU into your car. I thought you might be interested to know that Alpine actually make an adaptor and it maintains the parking sensors.

I also enquired about the Alpine 200BT bluetooth adaptor and the tech guy at Alpine told me that its not very good and very very slow and advised me to get a parrot car kit.

I just thought that this might be of interest to you before you invest.

Thanks for the heads up. When I started the conversion, there was only soundlinx, so had to settle for that. How much is the Alpine adaptor? Yes, the Alpine BT kit is poor and that's the reason why I haven't gone for it. However, I heard a revised version is coming out. Hopefully it'll be better. I'm keen to have the BT function on my D310R.

Did your mid-basses fire towards the bottom of the seats or do they fire away as per the stock woofers? I adjusted mine so that they fire upwards and it sounds a lot cleaner. Firing downwards they're too boomy.

So have you got some cunning plan for replacing the wheels when it comes time to trade your 335d in for the new M3? I'm curious, since I was thinking I'd keep my stock wheels and RFTs in my garage to put back on as I'm not sure the stealer would like a car with non OEM wheels and non RFTs.

I don't really care what the dealer like or don't like. If they give me headaches, I will just go to another dealer who will be more than happy to bend over backwards to sell me an E92 M3. It's a buyer's world. I traded in my E46 M3 with aftermarket parts (exhaust, wheels, brake components) on the car that I couldn't be bothered to remove. They either removed it themselves in their own time or sell the car as it was.

However, there are plenty about on ebay. Even E46 rims fit the E92. Whether it has run flats or not shouldn't bother the dealer. In the grand scheme of things, it's not important.

At the moment they have the KCA-200BT and the KCE-300BT the 300BT isn’t compatible with the 310. The guy over at Alpine told me that the 200BT wasn’t actually an Alpine product and was something they had bought in from a 3rd party supplier and they weren’t happy with the quality of the product. The 300BT is for 2007 models only.

Do you know if there releasing a 310 friendly BT interface? From my experience with the 310 anything connected over the AI net is painfully slow namely the iPod depending on how much music you have on the iPod if you are looking for anything towards the middle of the alphabet you could be at your destination before you get there.

How much is the Alpine adaptor?

You need two bits of kit for the Alpine adaptor

APF-R100BM - this maintains the PDC
APF 5100BM

I’m not too sure how much they both are but the APF-5100BM is £49.99 from Alpine.

I don’t know if you can mix and match Soundlinx and Alpine products because Alpine don’t and probably won’t make any sort of BT interface to the wheel.

When you used the Soundlinx stuff did all of the buttons work on the wheel because there are two buttons on the wheel for the phone prep but the CK-7W only actually has one button also does the Soundlinx interface give you everything you need to hook up the Nav and the Headunit as £320 is a hell of alot to invest on something that is only ok and does some of what you want.

I don't know if there is a BT kit is compatible with the D310R presently. The Soundlinx allow the use of just the volume and track selection buttons, also allow the PDC to work again. The rest of the steering wheel multifuntion button does not work. It's a lot of money but they were the only can-bus interface for the E92 available then and it had to be done.

Through-loading hatch i.e. a gap in the boot rear? On mine the Harmon Kardon subwoofer swings open to leave a gap IIRC.

peppernick is it the CAN02BMW interface you used in your E92 because I have just taken out all the ICE in my 1 Series and the installer used the CAN02BMW in my 1er. Did your interface have any thing "special" on it for the PDC to work because I cant see anything on the CAN02 to indicate that the PDC will work.

Yes, it's the CAN02BMW. However, the E92 package comes with a module and additional external speaker that will re-enable PDC. Speak to Soundlinx and ask if you could buy those separately.

Behind the headunit, inside the dash. Out of sight from everything else. The speaker is way too shrill. I wrapped it up with 2 layers of carpet and it's much more bearable now.
