MOTIV Twin-disk clutch unboxed

The first wave of parts are coming in... this is the MOTIV Twin-disk capable of 900ftlbs (or so advertised). I don't plan on getting close enough to test it, but its the best option for the MOTIV 750/PI/AEM kit I have coming.

Many thanks to Jake for being a rock star with customer service and MOTIV for creating parts that make my pants tight on a daily basis.

Will do. My mechanic usually provides me with ample photos when he tears my car apart and given the hype over this kit I assure you there will be plenty!

It is in my opinion, it's pretty much one clutch for a LONG time at power levels like we typically see. Plus, it's apparently very drive able too, unlike other high performance clutches.

So it's a comfortable clutch, that can hold pretty much anything this platform can throw at it. That's really the only upgrade the transmission needs to hold high power levels, versus the AT guys needing lvl10's for high boost/HPTQ applications or they slip.

Haha trust me, everything is telling me to buy except the price point, and by no means am i saying its overpriced at all, because a smfw and stage 3 is 400 cheaper, just sucks for a wear item lol

agree, I am looking at $5,000 for level 10 build and that really won't even hold much past 620+. I will probably go to manual soon.

I'll sell you a brand new in box spec 3+ with steel smfw for 07-09 trans for 1225 shipped conus.

I bought my twin disk when it was still a ptf item and am breaking it in now. Car is suuuuuuuuper easy to drive, barely stiffer pedal than my 07 A4 stock clutch. The thing rattles like a SOB though, but that's expected with the smfw and a twin disc.

Isn't this the PTF twin disk clutch? What is the difference between the two? It looks the same as what PTF has on their website.

It is the exact same. Jake at motiv us good friends with a guy at spec and got the ball rolling while ptf and motiv were joined. Now that they're split, motiv is the new provider and ptf likely just has some left in stock.

This clutch is indeed available through PTF as well as MOTIV. It is not a temporary item at either company. It is the best clutch for the N54 manual platform currently and exclusively resold through both companies.

It's a twin disc clutch and includes the flywheel. If you buy other clutches rated for this power expect tons of chatter and you need a flywheel too. This one is supposed to feel close to stock and be quiet. Paid for mine tonight. Really, compared to other twin discs it's a good price. And with the few extra hundred over the single disc chatter box ones.

Yeah, I expect some. But I had a spec stage 3 on an older vette I had and it drove me nuts. Sounded like a can of bolts shaking when it was in neutral.

Lol.
I cannot comment on the level of chatter in the single disc clutches with the single mass flywheel, but I can tell you that the twin disc chatters like a mo fo, and still sounds like a can of rocks at idle. I am breaking my spec twin disc in right now and it's wayyyyyyy worse than I expected noise wise. Hopefully it quiets down as it breaks in, after changing fluid, and after switching back to a compliant mount from my solid trans mounts.

I won't threadjack (i'll PM you after work) but swung by Jake's yesterday to measure out some wiring stuff, and there is some good news RE: the 6AT. It's nothing groundbreaking, but would allow for a good 550-600ish WTQ. On a single's curve that's good for substantial power.

P.S. you guys should see how nice the wiring looms are going to be on the Motiv kit. If it's possible to make wiring look professional and sexy, Jake & Co have succeeded.
